Sterling silver is the purest form of silver that may be used to make jewelry. Sterling silver bracelets come in different styles and shapes. These bracelets are worn by men and women, and they enhance the appearance of any person who chooses them correctly and wears them with style.

Simple sterling silver bracelets:
These bracelets may be in the form of links or chains and may be thin ropes or thick ropes. Thin silver bracelets may be worn during formal or casual occasions.

Sterling silver charm bracelets:
Silver charm bracelets are an ageless piece of jewelry. These charms could symbolize something very personal or they may symbolize generic things like love, eternity and protection. Silver charm bracelets may carry any number of charms ranging from a single charm to well over 20 charms. Some people like to hang lucky stones or birth stones on their bracelets.

Silver cuff bracelet:
Silver cuff bracelets are very much in vogue these days as they are in keeping with the trend of wearing stunning heavy pieces of jewelry. These may be worn during casual or semi-formal occasions. The cuff bracelet enfolds the cuff lovingly and is a great embellishment. Silver cuff bracelets may be encrusted with pearls or gemstones. They may even be made of high quality leather in combination with precious metal and stones. They may have a particular theme.

Gothic silver bracelets:
One of the major draws of the season has been the use of theme-based and culture-specific jewelry. Thus, Gothic and Celtic jewelry have become very popular with people all over the world. Sterling silver bracelets may incorporate the Gothic or Celtic theme. These bracelets are different and can help the wearer stand out from the crowd.

Trendy bracelets:
Many of the latest designs in bracelets are trendy, geometrical designs that combine silver and other materials to produce attractive jewelry. Tiffany inspired bead bracelets and pearl bracelets are examples.

Friendship bracelets:
Friendship bracelets make excellent gifts, particularly when they are made with sterling silver. These bracelets have a typical design and are fastened using a knot type clasp. Friendship bracelets may be simple or more decorative.

When choosing sterling silver bracelets, it is important to pay attention to the following aspects:
The quality of silver is ensured as you are buying sterling silver which is the purest form of silver that may be used for making jewelry.
The nature of the clasp plays an important role as silver bracelets need to be clasped properly to the arm to ensure their safety.
The size of the bracelet is important too. Bracelets that are too large fall off the arm while those that are too small do not have the natural mobility that you associate with bracelets.

The History of Modern Gold Charms and Silver Charms

Most people would be hard pressed to think of a more versatile piece of jewelry than charms. These delicate yet often very elaborate miniature pieces can be used on charm bracelets, added to hoop earrings or even attached to necklaces as pendants. Silver charms and gold charms alike are popular either as unique additions to a bracelet or chain or as part of a collection of charms.

There are very few rules when it comes to using charms on a bracelet or with other pieces of jewelry. While some people prefer to keep their charm bracelets all one type of metal, others prefer to mix and match. This combination of silver and gold on the bracelet can be very striking and can also make matching your charm bracelet to other jewelry very easy.

Charms actually date back to some of the earliest forms of jewelry. The first recognizable use of the charm bracelet goes back to the type of Egyptian Pharaohs. The precious metals were shaped into symbols that were of importance to the wearer of the bracelet as well as the gods. People were buried with their charm bracelets on as a way to provide information that would go with them to the afterlife.

Later on in Roman times, charms were used by early Christians as a way to secretly identify each other. The symbol was, as it still is today, the simple fish outline. Those that studied Jewish law would insert small rolls of parchment containing scripture into amulets worn about the neck, similar to charms or lockets of today.

During the Middle Ages and Renaissance times charms were used mostly to ward off evil or to attract good luck to the wearer. Different symbols were worn for different types of protection and some where very ornate and highly intricate.

Queen Victoria of England again revitalized the charm bracelet and the use of charms as a fashion accessory in the early 20th century. Charms that included family crests, flags and landmarks from different countries became very popular.

The first and second World Wars also contributed to the fashion trend of wearing silver and gold charms. Soldiers visiting foreign countries wanted to bring home small, easy to carry and pack items, so local jewelry makers fashioned small mementos of the landmarks and objects found within their country. Wives and girlfriends and family members then placed these charms on bracelets in larger collections, more like the charm bracelets we know.

Charms are now more than just silver charms and gold charms. They can be plastic, cut glass, precious or semi-precious stones, amulets, or even beads. They continue to be very popular with young and old alike, making them a jewelry fashion staple.

How to Untangle Your Silver Chains & Necklaces

Untangling silver chains or necklaces requires patience so if you don't have the ability to sit through a tedious task, don't even attempt it. You'll end up damaging your jewelry.

The thin and fragile silver chains are the toughest to handle even if they have just a single knot. However, whatever chain you're handling don't pull or jab at the knot. You will also need to work on one knot at a time.

Step 1: Begin by taking out the pendant if possible.

Simple knots can easily be worked out with a safety pin or ballpoint pen nib. Use a used felt tip pen if you have one. The nib is pointed yet soft enough to work with the fragile links. Understandably, pick a used pen that has no ink. Begin by inserting the nib or safety pin needle into the center of the knot and turn it about slowly. Soon, you will feel the knot hole widen and eventually you can pull it loose. If you are working with difficult knots and a fragile chain, you will need to work differently.

Step 2: Fetch a card sheet and thumb tacks. Pin down one end of the sterling silver chains and spread them out across the sheet. Take the first knot of each chain and pin one edge of it down very firmly. The trick lies in not pinning the entire knot but only one part of it.

Step 3: If the silver chains have corroded, dip them in a solution of a quarter cup of vinegar and one tablespoon of baking soda for about 15 minutes. Wash the silver chains with warm water and then pin them to the card sheet.

Step 4: Locate the end of the chain running out from side of the knot that is not tacked down. Slowly start pushing it in towards the knot. Do this repeatedly and also simultaneously use a safety pin if required.

Step 5: After performing Step 4 repeatedly, unpin the knot and check if has loosened and you can pull it out with your hand. If it is still tight enough, you will need to pin half the knot back and try again.

You may need to use some baby oil to rub into the knots in the sterling silver chains before attempting to untangle them this way. Another trick is to work on one knot a day in badly tangled sterling silver chains. That ways you are unlikely to give up the project too soon. However, if you still cannot work the knots out, you will need to take the silver chains to a jeweler for help.
