A History Of Celtic Jewelry

The Celtic people, or Celts for short, dominated mid and western Europe for a thousand years. Now, many of the Celts descendants can be found dispersed in parts of Ireland and the Scottish highlands.

Traditionally, the Celts transferred knowledge of their culture through word-of-mouth and it was because of this that no documentation on their history can be found on these people who became proud warriors, merchants, and rulers. Little is known about them prior to their contact with the Greeks and Romans. While history is not well-documented during the nomadic times of the Celtic people, the generally accepted history is that the modern styles of Irish Jewelry are greatly influenced by the Huns, Druids and Celtic culture in what is referred to as modern Europe today.

The art of Celtic jewelry making is at its core an enchanting and magical one because of the mystery and meanings surrounding its designs. Not only beautiful pieces of art, many pieces of Celtic jewelry possess excellent jewelry craftsmanship. Adopting ideas drawn from nature and applying these simple motifs and knot-work to the overall design, they produced intricate jewelry designs out of gold, silver, and bronze. Besides Celtic rings, many of their designs are found on bracelets, earrings, and pendants.

It was between 200 BC to 500 AD that precious metals such as gold and silver were fashioned into items such as gorgets, sleeve and dress fasteners, discs, bracelets, Lunulae, and torcs. Many of these beautiful works of jewelry art are now found in the National Museum of Ireland today. While it was possible that Celtic art was incorporated into materials such as wood and textiles, this cannot be confirmed as none of their works have survived over the years.

The Celtic style of jewelry underwent further refinement from the Irish monks. Out of their inspired development came the Celtic cross and the most treasured of ancient manuscripts, the books of Kells, Lindisfame, and Durrow. Its beauty and craftsmanship eventually attracted buyers across the Mediterranean and as a result, Celtic jewelry became one of the highly sought after items by traders and merchants.

At present, Celtic jewelry is very popular around the world and excellent pieces of Celtic jewelry can still be found from those jewelers employing the same traditional jewelry making techniques of the skilled, ancient Celtic goldsmiths. Many of the popular designs seen today include artwork derived from the ancient manuscripts. While the Celtic people as a clearly identifiable ethnic group are now long gone, their proud heritage of jewelry making lives on, especially in places where many of their descendants live today.

Celtic rings and jewelry can be bought from brick-and-mortar jewelry stores but for the best selection and craftsmanship, go online or visit a specialty Irish jewelry store. If you are particular about quality, be sure to check that the jewelry originated from Ireland or Scotland. This is especially so if you are buying it as a wedding ring or engagement ring. For mass market silver Celtic jewelry, these can be found in abundance offline and online.

Celtic Jewelry - Elegant Items to Be Treasured

Jewelry held a place of importance in Celtic life. The various jewelry items that have been discovered at the important sacred places and places of burial related to the Celtic life bears testimony to this. Both men and women were fond of adorning themselves with fine jewelry. The Celtic craftsmen were indeed very skilled. Based on the popular ancient Celtic patterns and themes as used by such craftsmen a thriving trade in jewelry has become established.

The Celtic ring occupies a special place among the popular Celtic jewelry articles. Weddings and engagements around the globe and especially in the western world still make use of the Celtic rings. The Celtic rings, as discovered, bear intricate patterns of knots, spirals, chevrons and scrolls- all of which hold some special significance.

The Celtic knot's significance is hidden in obscurity. This is because of the lack of relevant material providing information about it. Some scholars however opine that the knots may be symbolizing the interconnectedness of all forms of life that the Celts believed in. It is also known that these are occasional references made about certain knots in old Celtic myths and legends though no clear theme has emerged from this.

Celtic crosses are unique jewelry pieces. They are not just any crosses with Celtic knot work and they date back to pre-Christian times. These crosses have equal arms that are enclosed or backed by a circle. This can act as a symbol representing either the four corners of the earth or the four elements- earth, air, water and fire while the circle that is present around the cross can symbolize infinity and also represent the path of the sun in the sky.

The pentacle featuring in Celtic jewelry is composed of a five-pointed star within a circle are considered to be representative of five elements- earth, air, fire, water and spirit or five stages of life- birth, attaining youth, becoming adult, aging and becoming old and finally dying. There is also the popularity of the pentacle as a pagan symbol and its particular association with Wicca.

Celts have used animals for representing various aspects of life. These have found a place in jewelry too. Similarly, geometric motifs have also been playing a major part in fashioning Celtic jewelry ever since its inception thousands of years ago. Single spirals, dual centered spirals, triple centered spirals and Chevrons that are quite akin to arrowheads used by hunters and warriors have been immensely popular as jewelry to opt for.

Who Needs Men!

Is this a question most women ask themselves? I know I ask myself maybe twenty or fifty times a day. Sometimes I think I don't need them, and at other times I want them so badly I could taste them.

In my survey with other women, out of fifty women, 25 stated they could live without a man, and have done it, and survived, but the other 25 percent wouldn't catch themselves without a man in their lives.

So twenty-five women are putting up with mess to have a man because I know their lives are battling demons and then some. It can't be easy with a man in your life.

The men I've dated along the way weren't worth a grain of toothpaste, thank you very much. They are dense as a zombie, and don't understand the dynamics of a woman, and the way they tick. Instead of them trying to get to know the mechanics of a woman, they go out and find the next one.

A friend of mine just got married, but he's the most flirting man I've ever met. He flirts with every woman that breathes, and I feel sorry for his wife. I guess flirting doesn't mean anything as long as he doesn't take it up to the next level. Maybe flirting is harmless, and his wife can't worry about what he's doing when he's not with her. He should be worried about what the heck she's doing.

Men come in all categories. Here are a few:

The Old Man - these kinds of men live for a young woman on their arm. They like to feel young again, and brag about this gorgeous woman being interested in them. The only thing about an old man is the fact that most of them are impotent, and they can't get it up, so where does that leave the young woman?

The Young Man - he's searching for an older woman to take care of him like a mother figure. An older woman is more established and he wants someone to show him the ropes. The problem with these kinds of men is that most of them can't keep up, and the older woman is feeling like she's wasting her time with a baby.

The Money Man - he wants a young woman on his arm, but he doesn't want to do anything with her. His prize is just giving her money to keep her happy. As long as he gives her the money he doesn't have to entertain her, but he wants sex. This sounds like a prostitute to me, and who needs it.

The Playa Man - he wants you, Jane, Tammy and all the other women in the city and then some. He can't survive with just one woman, and the fact that he's not going to marry you is another story all by itself. And most of the time he can't keep the names in tact. He's a dog in every sense of the word.

The Marrying Kind of Man - now this is the man most women dream about finding when they grow up because he's going to search for the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with. He wants to get married, and has no problem with making the commitment.
He's our man.

The No Commitment Man - this is a man who doesn't know the meaning of getting married or committing to anyone. He's going to use you until he gets tired of you, and then he's going to move onto the next woman. He will never marry you, or date you for long. You're truly wasting your time with this kind of man.

The Dog Man - he is worse than a dog and will hurt you in an emotional way. He can't be trusted, and you'd need a condom in place because he's a snake in every sense of the word.

The Only For Sex Man - I don't want a relationship kind of man. I just want a booty call. Give me sex, and then have a great day. This is the kind of man you run as far away from as possible. He's just not the one.

The Staring Man - this is a man who just looks at you from across the room, down the street, on the bus, in a lounge, at a bookstore, in the park/beach, or at a movie theater. He doesn't talk to you, or ask for your number, but he continues to gaze at you with his black eyes. Who wants a man like this? I met one on a bus once, and he just continued to stare at me for weeks. When he finally spoke to me, he explained that he was trying to size me up, and find out what makes me tick. How was he going to find out what made me tick if he didn't get to know me? Of course our relationship didn't last that long, but men like this is afraid of rejection, so they just give you the eye. If you not man enough to get to know me, then you're not man enough for me. Get lost!

The Long Distance Man - he has a woman in every city because he likes this. He's a traveling man and when he goes to Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles, he wants to know Michelle, Danielle and Kimberly is waiting for him. Of course, Michelle, Danielle, and Kimberly think he's the only man for them. Too much distance for me, so I definitely don't need this kind of man in my life. I prefer my man in the same city, thank you very much.

The Mystery Man - this is a debonair kind of man, who has so many secrets you don't know what to think. Of course he intrigues you and you're dying to get to the bottom of his secrets so you're going to date him until you find out what makes him tick. Is he worth it? Maybe and maybe not!

The Married Man - now this is a man that every sane woman should avoid and then some. Who wants to be with someone who is already spoken for? I dated a man once, and didn't find out that he was married until a month into the relationship. Common sense told me to leave him alone, but he was so good to me, and I continued to be with him. Eventually when he couldn't keep up, our relationship ended. I shouldn't have gotten involved with him, and it will never happen again. The heartache and your morals aren't worth going to hell for.

The Live Together Man - he wants to see how it's going to be living with you before he ties the knot, if that happens, thank you very much. I don't think so. I have to admit I made a mistake of moving in with a man, and it lasted for a year and three months. It was good for a while, and then it ended up going to hell in a basket and then some. Of course we weren't married, so I couldn't expect the relationship to last. I moved out, and it's wonderful living without a man, unless you're married to him. I do believe in holy matrimony.

The Same Age Man - I have to admit that I haven't dated anyone my own age. I married a man who was three years older than me, but the same age syndrome doesn't work. This is because the men my age have women that are twenty-five years of age. Why would they want a 43 year old woman when they could have an 18 year old one?

The High School Man - you met him in the 9th grade, and you spent four years of your life with this man. He's the apple of your heart, and the passion in your world. After you both graduated from high school the wedding is on, and you spend twenty or thirty years together, not, because the man wants someone younger. He divorces you and moves in with a younger chick, or the woman does the same thing. Some couples stay married, but most divorce.

The No Trusting Man - he has had so many bad relationships he's not in the market for another one. He's going to dog out the women he's with, and ends up being alone because of his past. He's not going to believe that you're the woman for him, and you're not like the other women in his past, of course.

The Divorced Man - he's not so anxious to get married again because of his past. He's going to meet women, and let them know that if they're looking for a husband, he's not the one. I just want to have some fun with sex along the way. I won't buy you a ring because I've been down that road and it wasn't pretty.

The handsome/Sexy Man - this is the kind of man that you just can't trust for all the money in the world. He's to fine and women are throwing themselves at him, and his black bull-headedness is busting at the seams. You're not going to be the only woman in his life. His looks will be the downfall of a relationship or madness. You just can't trust him.

The Lying Man - everything out of his mouth is a lie, and he wouldn't know the truth if it electrocuted him on the butt. This is a man you couldn't trust, or listen too. He's probably married, or has a woman, or whatever. He can't be trusted.

The Engaged Man - he wears a ring so he's supposed to be taken. But when he's out there in the streets, the ring comes off, and he's stepping out on the woman he's supposed to marry sometime in the future. I feel sorry for the engaged woman.

The Con Artist Man - he's talking to you for a reason because there's something he wants from you and sex isn't the only ingredient. It plays a major role, but he has more objectives, and right now you are the key to his developing plans.

The Rich Man - he has so much money he doesn't know who he can trust. He's searching for someone who doesn't want any of it. He likes an independent woman who can take care of herself, and doesn't need him to do it. He's not a sugar daddy for any woman.

The Gay Man - he's someone who doesn't want to admit he's gay so he has women and men in his life. His preference is men, and he will come to terms with it, or play a lying game within himself. He sleeps with men and women.

In reality who needs men because they have more problems than a mental patient. I just don't need the stress or the headaches. I rather be alone, and then some. It's the best policy for me, and I'm sure most women will agree. Do you really want the headache? (1,845)

Adopt a Shih Tzu - Things You Should Know Before Adopting a Shih Tzu

The Shih Tsu is one of the few dog breeds that can make you fall in love with it at first sight. It is a lively, loving, and loyal dog that makes the perfect friend for life. Unfortunately, they're not immune to abuse and neglect causing them to be handed over to animal shelters and rescue groups. The lucky ones end up in a shelter where later on, a loving family looking to adopt a Shih Tzu would come along and give it a good home. However, the unlucky ones are released in the wild, where they fall victims to the elements and other dogs, or they're euthanized because they linger in the shelters for too long.

Therefore, if you are someone that is in the market to adopt a Shih Tzu, you must first decide if this dog is the right fit for you. These dogs were bred for a life of luxury, they've laid in the laps of emperors and empresses, and they were given as gifts to important dignitaries. These dogs cannot survive exposed to the elements. They're very dependent on human contact, and their only job is to be your friend.

Adopting a Shih Tzu might not seem like a hard decision, but you must understand that these dogs take some work on your part to maintain. Here are few things you should be aware of before you adopt one of these little bundles of cuteness:

First thing to know before you adopt a Shih Tzu: these dogs are high maintenance. They demand constant grooming in order to keep their hair tangle and knot free. You will also have to give them monthly haircuts if you are going to keep the hair at show length.

Second thing to know before you adopt a Shih Tzu: they're highly sensitive to heat; therefore, keeping them inside during the hottest parts of the day is crucial. You must keep them from the cold also. Therefore, it would be a lot easier if you keep them inside all year round.

Third thing to know before you adopt a Shih Tzu: they do not like to be left alone for long periods. Remember, they were bred to be companions. Therefore, if left alone for extended lengths of time, they may develop behavioral problems.

Fourth thing to know before you adopt a Shih Tzu: unlike most other dogs, they're highly susceptible to allergies, which can be a big problem. You should abstain from feeding your dog corn based foods, which may cause itching, shedding, gassiness and loose stools.

Fifth thing to know before you adopt a Shih Tzu: keep in mind that health problems are also going to be a factor as with any other dog, but the Shih Tzu is a breed of dog that are more prone to certain illnesses such as hip dysplasia, renal problems, and cataracts.

Now that you have a little idea of what you may be getting yourself into, I hope you are still willing to adopt a Shih Tzu. If you go through with the adoption, please do not abandon them like their previous owner did. I don't think any dog can go through that trauma multiple times.

Dog First Aid - What to Do When Your Dog Needs Help

Dog first aid is no different from human first aid when it comes to following procedures. Actual treatment usually requires special skills but that doesn't mean you cannot offer assistance. Whether dog or human, it helps to know something about injuries and conditions so you do not cause more harm. With dogs, there are a few other things to consider as well.

Dog First Aid: Rule Number One

Remember that dogs will bite if they are in pain or afraid, which is often the case when they have been injured. Even the most docile dog can become dangerous in the right situations. It's important, therefore, to keep this as your top priority when trying to aid a dog. The best way to prevent getting bitten is to put a muzzle on the dog or wrap a towel or coat around your arm for protection.

We'll discuss how you should always be prepared in a minute.

Rule Number Two: Protect the dog from additional harm

Of course, you want to make sure the dog cannot be harmed either by being in a dangerous location or by inappropriate treatment. As with humans, if you move the injured party, you could cause more damage, especially if bones are broken. If a dog is on the roadway, find something solid to carefully put the dog onto, like a flat board and lift him to a safe location well away from traffic.

Take special precaution to ensure your own safety as well. Make sure motorists can see you and avoid you.

Rule Number Three: Begin life-saving treatment

Dog first aid carries the same treatment priority system as human first aid, often referred to as A-B-C. Airway - Breathing - Circulation. Making sure the dog can breathe is the first priority. This means making sure he has a good airway, nothing lodged in his throat.

Check for injuries to the dog's chest that could mean a perforated or collapsed lung. If you see that he is in distress and cannot breathe because of a gaping wound in the chest area, cover the wound with a towel. Press firmly against the wound so that the air from his lungs cannot escape. Or even better, use a plastic bag as a patch instead and secure it to the dog with adhesive tape to stop oxygen leakage.

Stop the bleeding from any wounds as blood loss can lead to shock and death if it is severe or long lasting. Apply a tight wrap around the wound. Tie a knot in the wrap and place it on the dog so the knot sits over the wound itself. This will provide additional pressure to help stop the bleeding.

Rule Number Three: Call for help

While you are taking these life-saving steps, have someone call for help. If this is not possible, carefully move the injured dog into your vehicle and transport him to the nearest veterinarian hospital right away so that he can receive proper treatment.

Knowing dog first aid will come in handy many times during your relationship together. Dogs can get injured in many ways - they can step on something, swallow a dangerous object, eat food that is toxic to dogs, or they can just get ill the same as humans can.

These three steps can make the difference between your dog's life or death, given the right circumstances.

Be Prepared

Always have a dog first aid kit handy for such emergencies. Some of the main ingredients must be: a muzzle, leash, scissors, tweezers, bandages, medical tape, small towel, a blanket, Kwik Stop or cornstarch to stop the bleeding if your dog tears a nail, and rubbing alcohol. A pair of gloves for your protection would be a good idea. Never give your dog anything by mouth (not even water) if he is in severe distress from an injury or accident. Depending on the problem, it could make it worse or interfere with treatment by the vet.

Online Pet Supplies - How to Select a Good Chew Toy For Your Dog

Chewing is a natural behavior for most dogs. Whether they are bored, restless or just plain hungry, it's an enjoyable way to pass the time and beneficial for the health of their teeth and gums. The key is to provide a safe, non-toxic product that will not break off in large chunks, splinter or wear down too quickly. In order to avoid, choking, gastrointestinal obstruction or other digestive disturbances, human companions need to closely monitor consumption and select products that are both safe and appealing.

The following products are considered good choices but should be purchased based on the age, size and chewing capacity of your dog:

Compressed raw hide bones come in several sizes and flavors. The advantage of shaped, compressed rawhide is that it gradually becomes soft and gummy and will not splinter off into small chunks or sharp slivers. It simple unravels from its original shape and very small, digestible shreds are slowly ingested. Even voracious chewers might take days to demolish a whole bone.

Knotted rawhide bones are somewhat harder in texture and appeal to dogs who are teething or enjoy gnawing on the tightly wound ends until they break off. Once the ends separate, human companions need to carefully monitor chewing activity, since some dogs may swallow a portion of the knot after it softens.

Bully sticks appeal to virtually every dog, regardless of breed, size or age. They are made from a bull's penis and, unlike rawhide products, actually contain a measure of crude protein and are highly digestible. They are available in a variety of shapes, sizes and break down in chewable bits rather quickly for most dogs. Bully sticks are considerably more expensive than rawhide products, but well worth the cost for any pampered pup. The key is to permit an hour of chewing time, and then put the stick away for another day.

Calves hooves are an inexpensive satisfying, natural chew. Many dogs love them, but some humans find their strong, pungent odor a bit challenging to live with. The hoof breaks down into leathery soft particles and can last for a week or longer. Dogs will eventually whittle the hoof down to a small chip which should be tossed at that point to avoid choking.

Beef hide dental chews are a particularly useful for dogs who are resistant to teeth brushing. The digestible chips come in various sizes and are coated with a deliciously flavored solution that really does clean the teeth and help eliminate doggy breath. For product safety and best results, it is wise to purchase a product offered through a veterinarian. These chews are highly appealing and are usually consumed quickly, so daily use may cause digestive disturbance in sensitive dogs.

Hard plastic chew toys, such as Nylabones, are especially suited for teething puppies and very strong chewers who could ingest a softer product in a single sitting. The plastic is infused with chicken, beef or other natural tasting flavors and wears down at the corners. Tiny, non-toxic shreds are ingested and well-tolerated, but the toy should be tossed, once it shows significant wear.

When selecting a chew toy for your dog, it is essential that you are familiar with his chewing habits and products that are appropriate for his breed. Read labels closely and follow all recommendations and safety warnings. Chewing should be a slow, satisfying and safe experience for your dog, so keep a close eye on consumption and remove any product that is ingested too rapidly.

Introduction to Dog Leash Training

A dog is a hunter by personality. He loves to travel around, know his surroundings and show his control and control over the position. Leash training the dog can be divided into two chapters:

1. Introduction to the leash

2. Leash mannerism.

Like all the other central obedience dog training sessions, the leash training must also be commence to the dog in his puppy stage. The puppy must be made normal to the leash only when he turn out to be greater than 4 weeks old. Sooner than three weeks, it is not worthwhile to bring the little pup in make contact with outside surroundings.

The immature innocent pup turn out to be a devil at the age of six weeks. He can run very quicker than any adult. Thus it is very important to keep him below leash when taking out so as to be sure his safety.

Introduction To Leash training

* Select a high-quality comfortable leash for your pup and let him scrutinize it. Let him have fun with it for a while taking care he must not chew the mean time. Turn away him in some other action before putting the collar round his neck. Make sure the collar is neither be choking tight nor it should be loose enough.

* When effectively tied the collar, do not take the lead straight away. Let him go around the house with the lead and get familiarized to this new jewellery.

* After a some hours, take hold of the lead without causing any stress over the knot. Try to walk with dog. This habit reduces the stress over dog's neck and also makes the little canine feel safe and protected.

* The puppy may be made routine of the lead and the leash by making him wear the same at the time of custom walks. This also helps the puppy to connect the leash as a signal to an forthcoming adventure!

Leash Mannerism

The pup gets very excited the second you get his lead. He comes to identify that it is the time for outgoing! His excitement many a times makes it complex to stick the leash to his collar.

So as to make the most out of the leash without bothering the dog, you need to follow a few set of rules.

1. When taking the dog outside, call him by his name, grant him the sit orders followed by "stay" orders and then fix the lead to his collar. This helps out in straighten out down the keyed up dog and put away much of your time.

2. The dog gets all set to move out the second he is on with his leash. A developed big dog might pull you with him! To stay away from this drawing habit, you only need to sit silently after setting up the lead. This will make the jumping dog feel that you are not departing anywhere and he will get silently and settled. That is the second when you must grab the lead, praise the dog and move out of the room without showing any over excitement!

3. The time you moving out with your dog, you should stay ready for a number of horrible encounters waiting for you ahead. A stray dog or a squirrel, a biker or just a passerby, anything can trigger the dog's aggression. The moment you see such object approaching, give your dog a orders to sidetrack his attention. Bear in mind, do not tight the grip of the lead. If you do so, the dog will sense your tension.

4. Once you have mastered in controlling such encounters, you can unleash the dog and set him free to run.

To Marry or Not To Marry?

Marriage is not for the meek of heart. I searched the definition of marriage on Wikipedia, and this is what it states: Marriage is a social union or legal contract between individuals that creates kinship. It is an institution in which interpersonal relationships, usually intimate and sexual, are acknowledged in a variety of ways, depending on the culture or subculture in which it's found."

To me it's a commitment to one person, a binding contract, agreement between two people. A marriage is a bond - a connection. I believe today's society takes it too lightly. You date a year, or two, and then the pressures of society get to us. Our friends are all getting married, and the self induced pressure of holy matrimony deem us the victims. I often notice that a couple does so well when they are dating, and once they tie the knot - things start to change.

We have expectations for what it should be like. Notice the word EXPECTATIONS! When we put expectations on a person, we also must be ready for disappointment. I feel the best way to live is without any expectations. Just like giving, when you give - give without expectation. You give freely! That is what a great marriage is all about - we give freely of ourselves, without any expectations or wanting something in return. We expect our significant other to act a certain way, behave a certain way, give you flowers and presents that you have picked out in your mind, and when he doesn't - we hold it against him, and we get into an argument over what he failed to do for you.

I remember reading the book, Mastery of Love, by Don Miguel Ruiz. When we fall in love with a dog and we take it home, and then once its home, we want the dog to behave like a cat. This is exactly what we do with our relationships. We fall in love with this person and the infatuation stage is magical. When that state is over, we expect the person to like what we like, and behave a certain way. We buy a dog, expect a dog; it's as simple as that.

In this book, Mastery of Love he states, "Relationship is an art. The dream that two create is more difficult to master than one. To keep the two of you happy, you have to keep your half perfect. You are responsible for your half, and your half has a certain amount of garbage."

True love is selfless; once we decide to be a couple, you are there to serve the one you love without expecting anything back. It's all about service to each other; you can do this when the love you have for yourself is very strong. We must first love ourselves before we begin to love another. Before you take the big step towards holy matrimony, make sure you understand that marriage is a commitment not to be taken lightly. Live and be true to yourself first and you must love oneself first. Honor one another, and may you live in eternal bliss!

Remember, may the possibilities of today excite us all!

I am a woman with a passion and a vision of inspiring and empowering others to be better people for themselves and in turn for the world! I encourage others to grow in their daily lives; to be open to change. I am here to hear your thoughts and voice. I have compassion for the human race and want to encourage through words of wisdom.

Celtic Rings - The Significance of the Never Ending Knots

The spiritual faith of the Celtic people has been celebrated in story, song, and art for thousands of years. The notion of eternity and the endlessness of God's love is reflected in the greatest art treasures of the Insular Art Period, which began in the sixth century.

Before the Celtic nations of Ireland, Scotland, and Wales converted to Christ, they were Pagan. They believed in Goddess worship and the sanctity of the natural world. Many early symbols of eternity now present on Celtic rings can be traced back to the days of the Druids. Over time, the ancient Pagan symbols evolved, and became symbols of devotion to Christ, the one true God.

Today, Celtic rings feature a wide array of motifs, and all of them carry some element of mystical beauty. The intricate, hypnotic lines of Celtic knot work (also known as interlace) are a popular design feature in today's styles. Celtic interlace is meant to express the idea of the endless spiritual journey through existence.

It represents birth, death, and spiritual rebirth. The lines of Celtic interlace are never-ending. They can be traced forever. The artistry needed to produce classic knot work designs is a matter of pride for Irish artisans in the 21st century. Since the sixth century, the Irish have been world-renowned for their excellence in metal work, and today's craftsmen follow in their venerable footsteps.

As well as classic knot work, Celtic Rings also feature zoomorphic, or animal, symbols. These decorative depictions of animals and mythical creatures, such as winged lions (Griffins) can also be traced back to Druidic times. The most common zoomorphic symbols you will find on today's rings are serpents, birds, and winged bulls.

In the Book of Kells, Ireland's greatest national art treasure, the winged lion and bull are depicted alongside fine examples of Celtic interlace. Often, Celtic symbols appear together, and this is still the case with today's jewelry designs.

In Scotland, in prehistoric times, animals were used to represent the Clans. They would appear on stone carvings known as ornamented stones. The animal motifs were stylized and highly detailed, just as they are today. Often, they will feature the outline of an animal, and an inset of detailed interlace.

Another potent symbol of the Celtic people and their belief in the eternal nature of faith and existence is the Spiral. This curving decoration is also referred to as a whorl, and it appears on all manner of Celtic art, dating back to the Insular period.

Spirals often appear together with animal symbols or knot work, creating a rich, dimensional beauty. Celtic rings with spirals often feature lines or clusters of the classical shape, which it thought to represent the journey through all the cycles of life. Starting at the center and radiating outward, the rings of the spiral each symbolize another turn through the phases of human life, and another step closer to God and the afterlife. This sense of eternity is one of the most touching aspects of the Celtic traditions.

Rings with the symbols discussed above will be much the same as rings created thousands of years ago. Modern design techniques are now used, but the best Celtic rings are still made by hand, usually in Ireland.

Discovering the meaning of ancient Celtic symbols can be a satisfying way to connect with the past. The proud tradition of masterful Celtic metal work and artistry will assure you of a ring you will treasure forever.

Things You Should Never Feed Your Puppy Or Dog

Ask most people about what food you should never give a puppy dog and they will say chocolate. And right they are! Chocolate is fetal for dogs and while most people know this, there are still too many cases out there where a dog has died because a person who wanted to give their puppy a little treat, ends up killing their beloved pet. In reality however, there more that just chocolate that can harm you dog.

Certain food should never be given to any dog. Remember, a dog's anatomy is different than that of humans and just because something is good for you, doesn't mean it's good for your puppy. Here are other food you should never give your dog.

  • Grapes and Raisins - Grapes are fetal to dogs and if consumes in large quantities can cause kidney failure. While most dogs aren't crazy about this type of food, some will more than happy to eat them so be careful.

  • Onions - Some people have unknowingly given their dog some onions with a piece of chicken or some other tasty food. Dogs that eat onions can develop anemia so refrain from giving your dog this food.

  • Animal Fat - Dogs love chicken and meat but the fat and skin found on these foods can harm your dog. If your going to give your dog a piece of chicken or meat, make sure that they don't have any fat on them.

Many vegetables and meats are ok and even healthy for your dog but it's up to you to do research on the type of food that is good for your dog. We've listed here the four more common foods that should never be given to any puppy or dog.

The Front Load Washing Machine Advantage

Front loading washing machines versus top loading washing machines- which is better? is one of those debates we can all have with our friends and families just like are you a dog person or a cat person or tea or coffee? This author has had both types of washing machine, so I personally know the advantages and disadvantages of each and will give you my point of view (hopefully unbiased) on this issue. For the record I have owned several top loading machines but my last two machines have been front loaders.

Traditional top loading machines have been around since automatic washing machines were first invented front loading machines are a relatively recent invention when viewed in this time frame, and so I believe top loaders have continued to be the popular choice because we are more comfortable with this more familiar style of machine. (Be honest with yourself, have you only ever looked at top loaders because these were the machines you grew up with - the types of machine your mother and grandmother had?) Front loading machines have traditionally been used in a commercial setting and have been quite popular in Europe for many years as domestic machines they are well worth considering when you need to replace your existing machine.

They have traditionally been available in larger sizes than front loaders which made them the logical choice for large families, front loaders though are now being built in sizes up to and exceeding 7 kilograms which makes them a realistic option for families.

When it comes to the actual wash, I personally feel that my front loader gives a better result (cleaner clothes) than my old top loaders. Top loading machines are also harder on your clothes than front loaders as clothes tend to get knotted up together as well as being beaten up by the agitator in the barrel of the machine. Front loading machines are much gentler on your clothes as they do not have an agitator and top loaders rotate in both directions during the washing cycle so that clothes do not knot together.

The main disadvantage of front loaders when it comes to the actual washing cycle is that the cycle takes much longer to complete than top loading machines. If you require a really fast turnaround time for your laundry you will have to take the cycle time of a front loader into consideration. Due to the high spin speeds available with a front loader your drying time will be reduced dramatically however. (I have caught my children wearing clothes directly out of the washing machine in the summer time!)

They are much more environmentally friendly than top loading machines as the amount of water, detergent and electricity they use is smaller than that used by a top loader. A typical front loading washing machine can use half the water of an equivalent sized top loader.

Front loading machines in my opinion are a better choice than top loading machines, both in performance and especially due to the environmental benefits of less water, detergent and electricity use. You will have to decide for yourself which you think is better, but I would strongly suggest that you do at least consider top loading machines when you purchase your next washer.

Fly Tying - 10 Things You Need to Know

Whilst you might be keen to purchase as many different sorts of flies as you can, to see what works for the sort of fish you're looking to catch, another way is to create your own bait, by fly tying.

Here's what you need to know to get started.

1. A poorly tied know can mean that you lose the fish, and it's much easier to make sure that the knot is secure in the warmth and comfort of your own home, rather than whilst in the water on a cold day.

2. If you lubricate the knot you'll find that it slides into position easier, and is much more likely to stay firm.

3. By sealing the knot with a long pull you'll make sure that it doesn't come undone. Again, it's easier to do this as you tie the flies rather than when you are trying to land a fish.

4. You can finish the knot off by carefully snipping away the ends, this will make it look neat, and more authentic, and so more tempting to the fish you're trying to catch.

5. Like with most fishing accessories, you don't have to spend a fortune on dedicated fly tying accessories to get good results. Some of the cheapest and most basic flies can be as just as effective as more elaborate and expensive flies.

6. Many household accessories and things that you would normally throw away can be used to create flies. Why not save some bright, sparkly reflective or colourful things that you might not normally expect to use, and see if you can turn them into flies?

7. Unusual but effective materials used in fly tying include dog hair, feathers, or the foam used in packaging. Beads can also be used as well, and can be very effective.

8. If you think ahead, and have a fly box of scraps that you can use for tying flies, you can save a lot of money, and give yourself something productive to do when you're not fishing.

9. You can find out which are the most effective of the flies you have tied using trial and error. Perhaps some fish will be attracted to one sort of fly, or one colour much more than others. If you find an effective combination, you might even be able to convince your friends to try it.

10. When you're fly tying, you can be as creative as you like, and the only limit is your imagination. There are no real rules, and if you know the sort of colours or sizes that work well where you usually fish, then why not make your own, and see how you get on?

If you're looking to save money on flies, and catch more fish, why not start fly tying for yourself?

Method of Giving Medicine to Dog

As in the case of a child, medicines need to be given the dog systematically.

• For pills or tablets, it is better to grind them and administer in a liquid form by mixing the powder in water or milk. One can even wrap the medicine in something pleasant to prevent him from spitting it out. Any tablet needs to be given right to the back of the dog's mouth.

• For liquid medicines, the dogs should be brought into a sitting posture on its hind legs and the front legs should be straight. The master should stand over the dog with his legs apart and grip the back of the dog with his things and lift its mouth upward, opening it by holding the upper jaw with the left hand.

• Once the jaw is opened in this manner the liquid medicines should be given, preferably drop by drop or in smaller doses. It is advantageous to use the dropper while giving liquid medicines. you can gently pull out the corner of the dog lips making a convenient pouch in which the medicines can be poured. If the dog is being treated for skin or external infections,it is better to tie its jaw to avoid the medicine or lotion being licked off.Homeopathic medicines are not only effective but they are also easy to to give to the dog. These pills are small and they dissolve to mouth very fast.

• For skin diseases, a simple procedure can be followed. The medicines for skin diseases are normally in powder or liquid form.

Powered medicines can be proportionately mixed with water and then applied as if you are using a shampoo, i.e medicines should reach the roots of the hair. An important remember in both the cases is that the dog should not be allowed to lick its body for at least one hour after the application of medicines. Discourage the dog from licking its body by repeatedly saying 'no' whenever he tries to lick his body or loop a necktie or a bandage around his muzzle and make a knot under the jaw. This will prevent the dog from licking the medicines applied to the wound.
