Top 5 Hottest Tattoo Designs and Ideas for Sleeve Tattoos

Sleeve tattoos are edgy, bold and expressive. They are originally popular with rock band members and artists but nowadays, this tat theme almost appeal to everyone even with the female tat enthusiasts. If you are contemplating on getting one for yourself, here are some tattoo ideas for you to explore.

A Japanese-themed design can look amazingly stunning on one's arm. Images like cherry blossoms, koi fish, geisha, kanji characters and samurai can be incorporated into the theme. Usually the whole design idea can be mesh together through black-inked backgrounds such as waves and swirls. This enables the colors and details of the main design to pop out to make them even more eye-catching.

If you are a female, you can never go wrong with flowers as your tattoo sleeve design. You can take advantage of their gorgeous and vibrant colors to come up with an interesting style. You can combine different kinds of flowers to showcase each one's beauty and charm. Connect all the flower pieces with vines and twigs or mix them with other elements such as butterflies and you are on your way to a potentially captivating tat piece.

Tribal is perhaps one of the oldest form of body art design that has never lost its appeal even up to these days. Body art originated from way back during the old days when tattoo was used to identify one's ranking and social status. There are a variety of tribal tattoos to choose from such as Samoan, Maori, Hawaiian and Polynesian.

If you are of Celtic heritage (Irish, Scots or Welsh), then opting for Celtic tattoo can be appropriate for you if you want to show your pride in your heritage. This type of body art features knotwork and intricate lines, almost maze-like. The knot lines usually have no beginning and no end to symbolize the never-ending cycle of life and death.

Animal designs are another fascinating ideas for you to explore for your sleeve tattoos. The feline group for example generally express strength, speed, wisdom and dominance. These are qualities that a male would want to be associated with. You can go for tiger, lions, leopards or jaguar maybe. If you want to go on the friendly side, you can go for dolphins, horse, fish, bird or dogs perhaps if you have certain affinities with any of these animals.

Whether it be a full sleeve, a half sleeve or just a quarter sleeve tattoo, the important thing is to go for a design that you absolutely love. That is possible if it tells a story about you or holds a significant meaning to your life. If everything falls in this category, then there will be no regret in the end.

Dog Training - Exercise

Though breeds do differ from one another, and dogs within a breed differ from one another, all dogs have one thing in common: They need exercise.

Most dogs need an average of one hour a day devoted to exercise. (Some active breeds, like hunters or herders, may require up to two or more hours.) There is no correlation between the size of the dog and the amount of exercise it needs. Some small dogs have big energy reservoirs. Some giant dogs prefer to lay in the sun for hours on end. Each dog needs to be analyzed separately and each dog needs to exercise for whatever amount of time is appropriate. This is time separate from time spent training. This is walking, chasing and playing, preferably with you.

If you don't have time try to find it. If that's not possible consider hiring a dog walker or even a dog runner. This can be an expensive service but if you really don't have the time, it is probably worth the cost. A dog walker can charge from $20 to $30 per walk. If you don't know of a dog walking service in your area, ask your veterinarian for a recommendation or check with your local Humane Society. Professional dog walkers will often leave their information with these facilities just in case someone like you needs them! No matter whom you hire, you'll want to ask for references to make sure he or she is trustworthy. You are, after all, entrusting your dog to their care. And if you want them to come to your house to get the dog while you are not there, you'll need to set up a system that allows them to get into your house. In the end, you might decide it is easier to just walk the dog yourself, which would probably be your dog's first choice.

Swimming is another great idea, if you have a dog comfortable with the water and a safe place to swim. (Not all of us are this lucky.)

It is crucial that your dog expends some of its energy before you ask it to concentrate on its training. If you come home from a long day at work and let it out of its crate, it will be too busy freaking out to focus on what you are asking it to do in terms of training and learning.

Don't fall into the trap of letting your dog into the backyard and assuming that it's going to get its necessary exercise. Your dog needs to be stimulated. A bored dog is often a dog about to engage in mischief. You don't want a dog in mischievous mode when you're trying to teach it something. A dog needs to be physically and mentally stimulated for some quality minutes before you begin your training exercises.

A healthy dog is a happy dog. Our dogs are also happier when we are healthier. Exercise first, then train. You'll both be better for it.

Dog Grooming Basics - Yorkshire Terrier Grooming

There are many wonderful breeds of dog to choose from, but the Yorkshire Terrier is by far one of the most popular and for good reason. They are lovable, friendly, and loyal dogs and they are absolutely adorable. There are a few downfalls to owning a Yorkie however, which you of course will want to be aware of before you decide on this breed for yourself.

Yorkshire Terrier grooming in particular takes a fair bit of time and effort, and so if you are an extremely busy person then you may want to go with a different breed of dog. Grooming is of course important with all dogs but Yorkies more than almost any other need a lot of care and maintenance. Especially because of their long hair, duties such as brushing, shampooing and conditioning are going to be a regular task. Performing these grooming tasks, although beneficial to the owner pet relationship, can be outsourced to a professional groomer.

One of the most important things in Yorkshire Terrier grooming is bathing. Bathing will help to keep their hair clean and tangle free, and the best idea is to give them what is known as a pre-bath. During this pre-bath you want to go through their fur and look for any snarls or tangles, and get these free before actually giving them a bath. This is because if you do it before the hair gets wet you will find it easier to get out any knots.

You also want to make sure that you get their coat trimmed on a regular basis, and you can do this yourself if you have experience or know what you are doing. Otherwise you will want to bring them to a professional groomer for this so that you do not leave them with a butchered looking haircut. You will of course have to pay a fee for this service but it will be well worth it to have your dog looking great.

Yorkshire Terriers really do make wonderful pets. Not only are they great pets but they are great friends, and every Yorkshire Terrier owner is nothing less than superbly proud of their dog. As long as you perform proper and regular grooming, including Yorkshire Terrier cuts, you should not have any problems and you will have a beautiful and healthy dog.

Take care when you are choosing the grooming products and tools that you want to get for your dog, such as shampoo, conditioner, brushes and nail clippers. You want to choose items that are going to be high quality but which are not going to be overly expensive. Check out your local pet shops, but keep in mind that there are also many specialty pet shops you may want to browse through. Shopping online for your pet products is another great idea, but make sure that you take care when shopping over the Internet.

Dog Information - Importance of Dog Grooming

Dogs need grooming for the very same reason that humans do. The physical appearance of your dog has a great influence in the way your dog feels and the way you look and feel about your pet. Your dog's overall health is also improved with good grooming practices. Apart from infusing a healthy glow to your dog, you would also feel proud to show off your pet to others if he or she is well-groomed.

Regular combing and brushing are just some of the important aspects of dog grooming. Doing so will help remove dirt and dead hair thus preventing matting. Because blood supply to the skin is stimulated with brushing, regularly groomed dogs tend to have a shinier and healthier coat.

Grooming time is also an excellent time to inspect your animal for any signs of trouble. Things like tics, growths, fleas, skin irritations and ear mites will be detected during grooming. As with any other health issue, early detection can make a difference in the ease of dealing with a health issue.

You can also use grooming in building a stronger bond with your dog. If dogs get used to brushing at an early age, he might even see grooming sessions as a source of attention and affection, alternate to petting. A good comb and brush can be very useful with your dog's coat. But then again, don't forget that the nails, ears and eyes of your dog need as much attention as the hair.

Based on the dog's breed, there are types of brushes suitable for untangling knots, removing pests and dirt and spreading the natural oil through the coat evenly. Because each dog breed has different needs, you can ask help from a grooming expert or you can consult your veterinarian if you have questions about the matter. Brushing should be done thoroughly, meaning, you have to brush your dog's entire body including the ears, behind the legs and the stomach.

It is a known fact that there is a right and wrong way in doing things. The same is true for brushing your dog's hair. Using a slicker brush, you have to brush against the hair growth. This will take care of the tangles and remove all loose hair at the same time. Then you can use a comb with medium or wide teeth to brush along the hair growth, making certain that the skin is reached while brushing. And to remove any remaining tangles and get the fleas (if there are any), a flea comb should be used over the coat. Just part the coat and comb through starting from the root.

You should not wait for your dog to become matted or dirty before you do some grooming because he might associate the experience with offensiveness. Your dog should see grooming as a positive experience and you will only be able to do so if you start as early as possible.

Training Your Golden Retriever Pup - Simple Practical Tips To Train Your New Dog

Teeth Training:
Teeth is probably the most common training tip for Golden Retrievers. These puppies love chewing and will gnaw at anything they can get their mouth on. Though there are chew toys available in the market just for this, there is an easier way for you to help your golden retriever satisfy its instinct to chew and also help reduce the pain of new teeth growing.

The easiest way to begin is to fill a sock of yours with many ice cubes. After this, knot the opening of the sock and put it in the freezer. When your golden puppy starts looking for things to chew, give him this ice cube filled sock. Keep many such ice cube filled socks handy in the freezer. This will ensure a constant supply of chew toys for your dog. Always be by the side of your dog when it has the sock. Else, it might consume pieces of the sock leading to serious health concerns.

Leash Training:
Often people leash their dog during training and drag it along the directions they want it to go. This is most certainly not the right way to train the dog. It gives a bad message to the puppy and makes it dislike being in the leash. A better approach is to first help your puppy get used to the leash and the collar. Put it on the dog and allow it to move freely in a fenced area dragging the leash along. This makes the pup understand that leash does not affect it in any way.

Once the dog gets used to having the collar and the leash along with it, pick up the leash and then call the dog over to you. When he does come to you, praise the pup and pat him or offer him a treat. This shows the pup that it is doing the right thing. Patience must be always at the top of your emotions since this training can take a long time. Continue praising him when he does the right things and give him more time to get used to the leash.

Digging around

Digging is another natural instincts of the Golden Retriever and it loves to dig too. This can drive you nuts if you don't give this pup an area he can use for himself. He might dig too many holes in your backyard for your liking. Also keeping him indoors can make him claw at the couch or bed or the floor. You shouldn't punish a golden retriever for digging since it is their nature.

For giving yourself peace of mind and to help your puppy satisfy its urge to dig, give him some place where he can dig. A kiddie pool or a sandbox is more than enough. Bury a treat or two under the mud. This will give your retriever clues as to dig in that spot for treats and toys and will use the same spot every time he feels the urge. When the pup gets older, by means of constant training, you can make him get his habits and natural instincts under control

You can train your Golden Retriever really well by following the above tips. They are really fascinating dogs, if only you show the some patience. They have a slower learning curve in spite of their smartness. But once they have learnt the basics, they will become an inseparable part of your family.

Gathering the Tools Required For Grooming Your Cat

Felines are really amazing animals. Their history and background is as rich and complex as the history of dogs. In some nation's cultures cats are presented in their writings as loveable and friendly creatures, while other depict them as deeply related to evil. One side of the cat's personality aims to seek you out for praise and caress, as if he couldn't live without you. Another side of cats can go for weeks on end, without as much as a glance to its pet owner.

One of the most notable aspects of cats in general is their attention to cleanliness. Felines practically put themselves in auto pilot when it comes to house training, give them a brief tour of the installations and they will take it from there. Furthermore, if you commit to doing your part by keeping their litter box clean, they will reciprocate by using it, instead of your living room floor. Cats in general are able to spend countless hours in personal grooming. Their favorite tool for the job is their tongue, which they use to remove dirt, excess hair and comb themselves. The process can be quite a show for by standers.

Most pet owners with cats in their home grow so accustomed to cats taking care of themselves that completely forget that they need to complement their efforts with a few chores as well. Some of the responsibility falls on the pet owner, such as clipping the claws on your cat, removing obnoxious knots from the cats hair, and looking after the feline's teeth for tartar and caries. In order to accomplish these chores, pet owners will need to assemble a special tool box for your cat grooming needs.

An item that should be first in the list should be the traditional brush. This particular brush should be strong enough to remove straws, dirt, falling hair and other debris off your cats coat, while being gentle enough that it does not hurt his delicate skin. If your cat has a tendency to acquire knots in his hair, you might have to invest in a pet groomer, or be prepare to engage your cat with water in order to prevent the knots from forming.

In the event that you have decided to keep the claws on your cat, these will need to be clipped. Wild cats require their nails to defend themselves and to capture prey, they keep their length in line by sharpening them against hard surfaces, such as rocks. However, the use of claws for your regular house cat is limited to scratching furniture and an occasional attack at the hand that feeds him. Is the pet owner's responsibility to keep the claws in line. This is not only important for your own safety, but for others as well. For this job you will require a cat nail clipper. You are best advised to ask your veterinarian for the best size clipper for your cat. Furthermore, it would be best if you watch him do it the first time.

Dental hygiene is also of crucial importance in the health of your pet, and by no means should be considered just pet games to look into your cat's mouth. The tools required for this job could be limited to a small mirror and a tooth brush. A simple inspection with the mirror and removing debris with the toothbrush is enough as far as maintenance. Further examination and attention should be provided by your cat's veterinarian.

Help, I Have Found a Lump On My Dog

Skin lumps are very common in dogs. There are a whole range of possible scenarios that can present as a lump on the skin, including, insect bites and stings, abscesses, hematomas, cysts, soft tissue swelling following trauma and benign or malignant tumors. Tumors are probably the most common of these, but two thirds of them are benign and therefore merely cosmetic. Here we look at the most common types of tumor affecting the skin and subdermis in dogs, and what, if any, treatment they require.

When presented with a skin tumor, a veterinarian has 2 issues to deal with.

1 Is it a type of tumor that requires surgical removal

2 Is further treatment required once it has been removed

Some skin tumors are so obviously benign that a vet will not even bother to biopsy it, let alone recommend removal. These are the small wart like tumors that are often attached by a narrow strip of skin. All skin tumors that do not fit this category though should be subjected to a fine needle aspiration (inserting a needle into the lump, sucking out some cells and characterising them under a microscope) or a surgical biopsy. This will determine whether or not complete removal is necessary, and define the prognosis.

A thorough clinical examination is important to assess both the tumor and the patient as a whole. A veterinarian will study the tumor with respect to its size, position and appearance, and examine the local and regional lymph nodes to look for any evidence of metastasis.

What is the difference between benign and malignant tumors?

Benign tumors are generally slow growing and may change little over the course of a year. They usually have a clear margin and cause the dog little trouble, but they can occasionally cause discomfort if they become ulcerated or start to bleed following self trauma.

Malignant tumors often grow rapidly over a few weeks. They tend to become ulcerated early in their course and they can infiltrate surrounding tissues, therefore seeming fixed and less moveable than benign tumors.

BENIGN SKIN TUMORS

Naevi and Skin Tags

These are not tumors, they are harmless, well marginated stable skin growths that are present at birth, but can grow in old age.

Warts and Papillomas

These are benign tumors that may grow spontaneously or may be triggered by a virus.

Sebaceous Cysts

These are common in dogs (around 7% of all skin tumors). They are not tumors, but accumulations of sebum within the gland due to a blocked duct, which can often be resolved by squeezing it.

Sebaceous Hyperplasia

This is proliferation of the sebaceous tissue mentioned above to form cauliflower like warts that may become traumatised, ulcerate and bleed. They are very common in old Cocker Spaniels and Poodles. Surgical excision or cryosurgery with liquid nitrogen is curative.

Basal Cell Tumor

More common in cats than dogs. Usually presents as a domed, well marginated hairless pink mass in the skin. They tend to be moveable over underlying structures and are slow growing. Surgical excision is curative.

Histiocytoma

Usually seen in juvenile dogs around 18months old, though can occur at any age. They grow rapidly over about 6 weeks to a maximum size of around 2cm, and are domed hairless lumps within the skin that can ulcerate. The key step for the veterinarian is to differentiate histiocytomas from mast cell tumors (see later), which can be easily done via a fine needle aspirate. Surgical excision or cryotherapy is curative for histiocytomas, and many will disappear of their own accord without treatment.

BENIGN SUBCUTANEOUS TUMORS

Lipoma

The lipoma is the most common subcutaneous tumor in dogs. It is a well defined, well circumscribed mass with a soft rubbery texture to it. They are slow growing and a very common occurrence in older overweight dogs. They can occur both on the trunk or on the limbs, and though they are completely benign, occasionally they can become so large that they are a nuisance to the dog and only then is surgical excision necessary. Before assuming a lump is a lipoma, it is good practice to have a veterinarian perform a fine needle aspirate on the lump as one or two other tumors can mimic a lipoma, such as certain presentations of mast cell tumors (see below) and hemangiopericytomas.

MALIGNANT SKIN TUMORS

Squamous Cell Carcinoma

This is a common malignant tumor in both cats and dogs. It usually occurs on relatively hairless non pigmented skin and can be triggered by long or repeated exposure to UV light. Surgical excision is usually curative if good margins are achieved, and those cases with incomplete margins benefit from post operative radiotherapy to kill the remaining cancer cells. Some squamous cell carcinomas are very difficult to remove though, such as a nasty infiltrative form which occurs on the nasal planum. Chemotherapy has been used for this tumor type with mixed results.

Melanomas

Relatively common in dogs. The majority are benign and surgical excision is curative. However, those that arise on the nail bed, scrotum or mucocutaneous junction (e.g. on the lips) are usually malignant. Surgical excision is mandatory.

Mast Cell Tumors

These are amongst the most common of skin tumors in dogs. They have a wide range of appearance and behavior, making them sometimes challenging to diagnose and treat. About 10 per cent of dogs suffer them at multiple sites.

Mast cells occur naturally in the skin, performing an important function in releasing histamine and heparin in response to various allergic stimuli. Like any cell line, mutations can occur where the cells start to divide uncontrollably, forming a tumor. If a mast cell tumor is squeezed it will therefore release histamine and cause a wheal reaction on the skin. Histamine can also cause vomiting so affected dogs may present with upset stomachs.

If a mast cell tumor is confirmed on a fine needle aspirate, it should be surgically excised as soon as conveniently possible. In cases of well marginated tumors that are caught fairly early, this is usually curative. Margins of 2 to 3cm are advised. However, higher grade tumors tend to be aggressively invasive and complete excision is not always feasible. In these cases, partial excision together with radiotherapy or chemotherapy is the treatment of choice.

Dogs that have had mast cell tumors tend to be predisposed to getting them again in the future, even if they are surgically excised promptly. Therefore, owners of such dogs should meticulously examine their dogs skin at periodic intervals to search for any suspicious lumps.

How to Begin the Grooming Process on Your Toy Breed Dog

Many people seem to think they would be doing their dog a favor by cutting the coat short in the summer and leaving it long in the winter. This theory is FALSE! An animal has its own body thermostat and is used to the amount of coat it has. Cutting off its entire coat can be a real shock to your dog, and he could even get sick from being cold. What you dog really needs is for you to help it with some serious grooming!

So you don't lose your dogs attention while grooming, make sure you gather all your grooming supplies before you begin a session: Good quality dog shampoo (NOT Johnson's baby shampoo), hair dryer, Slicker brush (preferably curved), metal comb, de-matting tool, proper size nail trimmers, sharp hair scissors with safety blunt ends, a good grooming spray & eye cream for stains. Now we are ready to start.

It is extremely important to brush out all the knots and tangles BEFORE the bath. If you don't, the warm water and soap will set in all the knots making it almost impossible in some cases to get them out. Begin a grooming session by putting your dog up on a grooming table. Yes the kitchen table will do, as will washers and dryers or any other area of control. Make sure the entire time your dog is up on the table, you have a hand on him making sure he doesn't fall.

Start with your slicker brush and brush and brush and brush!!! Start on one shoulder and brush down toward the leg. What if your dog struggles or whines and twists and turns trying to get away? You must take control! The dog has got to realize this is going to happen. With your left hand grab him by the scruff of the neck. Grab a big hand full of fur and neck. Hold his front feet off the table if need be. Say in a firm voice "NOOOO, STAY". Keep brushing! If you stop as soon as he gives you a hard time you will never be able to groom him. Brush the coat all over, mostly the direction the hair grows. Hold on to him any way you can, don't let him win. Keep saying "NOOOO, Stay".

When you find a mat, take your de-matting tool, get under the mat and work the tool up and down, up and down, until you cut through the mat. Now use the slicker over the same area until it slides smoothly through the coat. All of the dead winter hair should come out in the brush. I use a curved Slicker brush on all Bichons, Poodles, Yorkies, and Maltese. It does a fine job on all long and full-coated breeds.

What is the Best Site For Finding a Mate Online? Finding the Best Dating Site For You

One frequently asked question about finding a mate online is, what the best dating site? There various ways of zeroing in on the best dating site for you. Notice the words "for you". What's good for someone else, even your closest friend or twin sibling may not necessarily be good for you.

First and foremost, finding a mate online requires that you know what you want. This might sound obvious, but there are many who don't know what they want beyond "a date", "a girlfriend/boyfriend", "a partner" and the like.

To find out what you really want, try filling in the blank after the phrase "I am looking for _". Among the things that would go into that blank include:

1. A fun partner: This can be short term or long term, but nothing serious. Marriage is out of the question (though things can and do change).

2. Dating only: This too can be short term or long term and open-ended. This type of relationship could get serious down the road. Most traditional dating relationships fall in the category.

3. Marriage: Yes, you can find a mate online to tie the knot with. Be specific on whether you want children or not, and whether you are willing to marry someone with children.

4. Adult adventures: Besides erotic pursuits, fetish and alternative lifestyle interests fall in this category. The good thing about online dating is that you can get just about anything you want, and lots of people ready to "play". Seeking a mate with whom to explore your wildest fantasies or fetishes? You will find good company online.

5. Niche interests: Like big women? Love dogs? Seeking a fitness partner? Want someone in the military? Or even a roommate? Virtually all interests and passions are represented online, from mild to wild.

Finding the Best Dating Site for You

You have probably discovered that there are thousands of dating sites online. Making the right choice is often not easy. It is worth repeating that the way to find the best dating site for you is to narrow down to the ones that best fit your needs.

Having decided the type of relationship you want, here are 6 basic categories of dating sites to choose from:

1. General dating sites: These are profiled-based. You search and get found through personal profiles posted on the site. They usually (especially the popular ones) have huge databases of singles. You may to be very specific about what you want to avoid having to go through endless profiles. Those seeking casual dates and those who like to get to know someone before committing to a serious relationship are better served here.

2. Matchmaking sites: These are for people looking to find a mate online for a serious, long-term relationship or marriage right from the start. They are personality and compatibility based. Matchmaking sites do the matching for you, but some also allow you to also do your own searches. Expect to answer a comprehensive questionnaire, in multiple-choice and essay questions.

3. Speed dating sites: These sites organize online or real-life events that let you meet several potential mates within a short period of time. This can be done online or a live speed dating event, and sometimes a bit of both.

4. Religion/ethnic based: These are categorized together as there is quite a bit of overlapping. Christian, Muslim, Jewish, LDS, Catholic, Buddhist, Asian... you name it; if you're seeking a mate of a certain faith or ethnicity, you will find good company online.

5. Niche dating sites: These are based on very particular and narrow interests or passions. Examples include; dog lovers, fitness lovers, big beautiful women (BBW), big handsome men (BHM) and more.

6. Adult, fetish and alternative: These cater to adult interests. Adult means just that: anything goes. Fetish and alternative sites cater to those who want to venture beyond just the "adult" and into things like spanking, S&M, BDSM, and the like.

Boating With Dogs - Is There a Best Way to Bring Man's Best Friend?

If your dog is your best friend, it's understandable that you would want to bring him or her along with you when you go boating. As you probably know, dogs hate being left behind, and that look on their faces as we drive away for a day of fun and relaxation is a bit too much to take. But don't assume that dogs can't go boating. In fact, dogs are great boating companions, and there's nothing strange about taking them along with you. Just make sure you prepare ahead of time, and everything will be fine.

1. Dog-proof the boat: Before you do anything, take a look around your boat for anything that would hurt the dog. Stow all gear and sharp things, especially fishing hooks, safely in their containers. Meanwhile, check for things that the dog might disturb, and stow them safely away.

2. Make a potty area: You can either get one of those special set-ups from the pet store or make a special area out of weighted- or taped-down newspapers. Make sure the dog goes right before you leave, and don't forget to bring some plastic baggies and a waste container.

3. Bring lots of water and food: On a hot day in the sun, dogs need lots of water. So make sure you bring a bowl to put water in, plus more water than you might think is needed. You don't have to keep water in the bowl at all times, as long as you remember to give the dog a chance to drink every half hour or so. The same goes with food. Just put some food in a bowl when you think your dog is probably going to be hungry.

4. Get a special doggie flotation device: You can get these devices in boating stores, at pet stores, or online. It's best if it has a handle on the back so that you can pull your dog out of the water if necessary. Before you go boating, have the dog wear the flotation device around the house for a while so that he can get used to the feel and smell of it.

5. Let your dog get used to it: Before going out on the water, let your dog hang out on the boat for a while. When the motor gets running and the boat starts rocking around, dogs aren't quite sure what's going on. So the slower you acclimate them to these conditions, the better. On the other hand, there are some dogs who do perfectly fine with being on a boat. You won't know until you actually get going.

6. Bring some doggie Dramamine: You probably aren't going to need it, but just in case your dog has a very negative reaction to the motion of the boat, you might want to have a little extra Dramamine that will make the sickness go away and hopefully cause your dog to curl up and take a nice, long nap on the boat.

4. Only make it a public proposal if you're extra certain she'll say yes! You don't want it to turn into a humiliating experience do you!

5. Look after the ring! It's your precious! Don't give it to the Waiter to serve as desert or bury it in sand! You'd deserve to lose it if you did that!

6. Make sure you go down on one knee! It's old and corny but she always imagined her proposal would be like that ever since she was a little girl, so don't let her down!

7. Practice! You'll feel stupid doing it, but make sure you do and I mean in front of the mirror and your Dog! Otherwise, she'll be telling all her mates how you bumbled the most important words in both your lives!

8. Make sure you have a romantic setting! Flowers, candles, music and good food! It's all about the romance over big and lavish!

9. If you're planning on getting married quickly, then propose in the winter and aim for a spring wedding! Otherwise propose in the spring and you'll have a whole year to prepare!

10. Finally, enjoy it! This is your big moment! Just make sure you've thought through every eventuality and you'll be fine! Good luck!

Training a Gun dog Isn't Hard - Lesson 6, Basic Retrieving and Directing Your Dog

Basic Retrieving: What Are We Trying To Achieve?

The obvious aim of retrieving is to get the shot game to hand; however the love of retrieving is the tool that we use to teach a dog to follow signals to an unseen quarry that may have been wounded but able to fly on, maybe across water, before landing. Once down the bird may have died, for example if it was lung shot; just as likely is that the bird was winged and able to run on. In the first case, it will be sufficient to handle the dog to roughly where the bird died. In the worst case, it will be necessary to handle the dog to the blood trail, then let him figure out the best thing to do.

The First Lessons

The first task is to get the puppy to scamper after a retrieve. A suitable object to retrieve is small, soft and quiet. The worst object is too large to be held easily in the puppy's mouth, is hard and squeaks when it is chewed. So what we are looking for is something like a clean hanky tied in a knot, or a new sock. For crying out loud, don't get them to retrieve a used sock unless you are going to be forever happy with a dog that likes chewing washing. If you want to spend the money, a puppy dummy can be purchased, but for my mind these are a little too hard, and may encourage chewing. Others may disagree.

Remember what has been said in earlier lessons, do not overdo this. Success once a day which allows you to praise the puppy up is enough.

The ideal lesson is to stand between the puppy and somewhere it will run with a toy; this is normally his bed. Have the puppy with you, paying you attention which you are returning. Show the dummy to the puppy, and just throw it a yard or so along the ground. The pup will naturally run after it, and then try to get back past you. Stop her and make a fuss of her, then gently take the dummy. Do not pull the dummy; the last thing you want is to enter a tug of war. Plenty of praise!

On the subject of not entering into tugs of war; NEVER, EVER, EVER!!! allow your kids, friends, wife, husband, parents, neighbours or anyone else enter into a game of tug of war over anything with your pup. You may as well take a hammer to every bird, rabbit or other game that your dog will retrieve in future. So I suggest that you avoid the rubber rings that you can buy as puppy toys, along with the squeaky toys.

Right, having just had a first retrieve and praised the puppy, she will want to play more. Keep this up for a few days, and once she is happy coming to you with the dummy, it is time to change the routine slightly. Extend the distance, and encourage her to come to you with the attraction of her bed behind you.

The Next Step

We now use the pup's interest in the retrieving game to start handling her to seen retrieves.

Get the puppy to sit in front of you and facing you at about a yard. Show the dummy and throw it behind you, at the same time giving her the SIT! command. Her initial reaction is to chase the dummy, so it is important to emphasise the sit command with the verbal and raised hand commands. If the dog breaks the sit, catch her and put her back. Repeat the throw, again striving for the puppy to stay. Once she has sat for a few seconds (remember as with any timing, keep varying the actual time spent as discussed in previous lessons), encourage her to retrieve with the command 'Dead!'. If she is confused she may not want to go, so encourage her.

Spend time on this over a few days, gradually extending the distance, and fetching two out of three of the retrieves yourself. This is most important for later steadiness. Not every falling bird should be picked by the dog, and the less she does the more she will want to fetch - it becomes a gift rather than a chore or a right!

The last thing I am going to discuss in this lesson, is to sit the dog in front of you as before, and throw the retrieve over her head. Now if your Sit! hand signal is done with the right hand, use the left hand to give the 'Out!' signal which is a raised arm brought sharply down and forward accompanied by the command Out!.

If she does not go, immediately give her the 'Dead!' command.

Keep it fun for you and the dog. Speak more later!

Onionskin Paper Curls

Curls surely give you a sexy and seductive look. The problem about curling your hair is that it damages hair because of the chemicals that are used in the process and the heat from the machines that are also being used in the process. Plus, it takes a lot of time and effort. But what doesn't, right?

What you are about to learn is a way to curl your hair, without the chemicals and the damaging heat from the machines. Make sure that your hair is damp prior to starting the curling technique. Get a couple of onionskin paper and cut them vertically into four. Fold each part twice. You will have approximately half-inch strips. Once you're done, it's time to roll.

Divide your hair into half. Tie the other half away from the other half that you will work on first. Get one onionskin paper strip and a small portion of your hair. Sandwich your hair in the asymmetrically folded onionskin paper strip. It should appear like it's a letter V pointing sideward. Pull it down and twist it along with the hair to get the V-shaped strip to point upwards. Roll up your hair. Your hair should be wrapping around the corner of the V-shaped strip. Once you're done, tie the lose ends into a knot or twist them together. Just do the same process until there is no hair to roll.

After doing the folding, twisting and rolling, all you need to do is wait till your hair dries. When it's already dry, take the onionskin papers off your hair and style and enjoy your curls. Your curls could last until the next day.

Make a Fleece Dog Chew Toy

A while back, I was shown how to make a fleece dog chew toy by a dog owner friend of mine.   It's an incredibly rewarding and creative way to express yourself, and to provide a valuable tool for your dog, and divert his or her attentions from the finer things in your property.  I always had problems with my dog, Lester, and the butt of all his toothy frustrations were the shoes, table legs and soft furnishings of my home.  I soon decided that I had to do something to improve our relationship as a whole, and to give him something to relieve his obvious boredom, and get him through a difficult time.

Fleece dog chew toys are incredibly easy to make.  I was able to get a number of lengths of fleece material from a local upholsterer, and was shown how to tie them in various different ways, to achieve a variety of shapes and sizes.  The materials are inexpensive, and you can achieve stronger and more resistant designs, for larger dogs, by tying more and more strands together into tighter knots.  Color also plays an important role, and it pays to be as flamboyant as possible.  The more garish, the better, as your dog will not be able to resist the temptation to attack!  Take inspiration from books and the things around you.  I flicked through some old National geographic journals, and modelled some toys on the African animals therein.  Get creative and before you know it, you'll have an enjoyable new hobby, and an endless stream of toys for your best friend.

The Nature of Jesus' Temptations and the Bible

"For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin" (Heb 4:15). We are also told, "He does not give help to angels, but He gives help to the seed of Abraham (believers) ... since He Himself was tempted in that which He suffered, He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted" (Heb 2:16,18). There is something about these verses ... that always bothered me a little.

I have always understood that Jesus was "in the likeness of sinful flesh" (Ro 8:3) - but was not sinful flesh ... like me. One reason for the virgin birth was to interrupt the inheritance of a sin nature from Adam. Jesus was never inclined toward evil ... as He was not infested with a sin nature - possessing time bombs that love death ... like me. So how could He really know what kind of battles I face? How could He come to my aid and sympathize with my struggles ... when He did not have a sin nature? And wouldn't an inclination toward some sin make for a more ferocious battle than temptation toward that same sin - absent the inclination? Well, I wasn't too enthusiastic about voicing these concerns. Quite honestly, I was willing to let this sleeping dog lie. But, as I was working through the material on, "The First Homosexual and the Bible," and "Man's Nature: One's Invisible Metaphysical Imprint and the Bible," I stepped right on him. Avoidance ... was no longer an option. Two points emerged.

Point 1: He can "sympathize with our weaknesses ..."

... not sin nature. It's funny how I never saw that before. Sin springs from one of two sources. One is an inherited sin nature possessing bents toward errant behavior. Jesus did not have that. The second source involves areas of moral weakness - some moral vulnerability - absent any bent or character flaw toward that errant behavior. Jesus did deal with that. Neither of these accrue personal guilt before God. Only the commission of the errant behavior creates guilt. We will come back to this second source, and Jesus' entanglements with it, in a moment. Careful reading, and some prayer, often leads to the untying of knots.

Point 2: I have not yet "resisted to the point of shedding blood ..."

... in my striving against sin (He 12:4). One reason I was tepid about voicing concern over these passages was because I knew that an insinuation that His battles against sin were less intense than mine (because of my sin nature bents) - would border on blasphemy ... or already be seen by God as a headlong rush into it. But, this passage in Hebrews, along with recollections of the scenes in the crucifixion saga, clarified many things.

For starters, let's revisit Gethsemane. The desire to avoid the cross was so strong that, "being in agony, He was praying very fervently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground" (Lk 22:44). This sweat was produced ... on a cold night (Peter was soon warming himself by a fire - John 18:18). It was not the result of a marathon run - but by intensity of prayer. He fell on His face, and in three appeals to the Father, asked if this cup could be removed from Him ... "yet not My will, but Thine be done" (Lk 22:42). Concerning His sweat becoming "like drops of blood," some have speculated that the pressure may have been so intense that blood vessels were bursting - and may have colored, or somehow otherwise affected the sweat, so as to spawn this correlative notation about its characteristics. I don't know. But, what I am confident about ... is that His spirit was willing to obey the Father even to death upon a cross - but His flesh was weak ... not flawed, but "weak" (Mt 26:41). The temptation - was to disobey the Father's revealed will ... and call on those twelve legions of angels for deliverance (Mt 26:53). Of course, I don't think He even needed them. As He exited His prayer spot, He confronted His arresting party and "said to them [not asked them], 'Whom do you seek?' They answered Him, 'Jesus, the Nazarene.' He said to them, 'I am.' ... When therefore He said to them, 'I am,' they drew back and fell on the ground." Jesus then repeated the question and proceeded to dictate the terms of His arrest - and they cooperated (Jn 18:4-9). This knockdown ... changed the dynamic of the entire arrest. I am quite certain this blow was a only intended to get their attention - and secure the release of the disciples. He could have just as easily pinched their nostrils closed and ushered them all into eternity. "Ego eimi," ("I am") is the designation for God Almighty - going back to Moses and the burning bush (Ex 3:14). The temptation ... was to use His power for self-deliverance.

The whole passion was a massive temptation in this regard. As early as John 13:3, we find that "the Father had given all things into His hands ...." Jesus could have ended His ordeal at any time. The more I delve into this entire travesty, I don't know how Jesus was able to allow this upon His person. For some reason, He loves me, and was willing to go through this for me. I hope you can say that, too. The point? Well, there are at least two. First, obedience to God's will often brings negative events. The temptation is to avoid such reality. I am certain this dynamic will only exist in this age (from Adam until the Judgment). Second, these temptations to sin are as powerful as any sin-nature-inclination battle. Look at the energy required for Jesus to defeat them. There is no way any sin-bent temptation I ever face will be more challenging than the ones (plural) He faced. How could any fight against sin be more intense than ... the cross? He was "obedient to the point of death, even death of a cross" (Phil 2:8).

The truth is - Jesus was, and is, first place in every arena He chooses to enter. He was marred more than any man (Isa 52:14), He was treated more unfairly than any man (2Pet 2:22-24), and His fight against evil, and its intensity, will never be equaled (Heb 12:3). No man will ever face more powerful temptations than He did ... sin-bent or not. He is preeminent.

Consider This

James tells us "God cannot be tempted by evil" (Ja 1:13). The Bible is also clear that "(t)he Word was God ... and the Word was made flesh" (Jn 1:1,14). This refers to Jesus Christ who "did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped" but was willing to be "made in the likeness of men ... in the likeness of sinful flesh" (Phil 2:6,7 and Ro 8:3). Jesus was not created - "but a body Thou hast prepared for Me" (Heb 10:5). Jesus was/is God inside a human body. Since God cannot be tempted by evil, and Jesus is God, it appears to me that the temptations He faced during His lifetime in Judea were either a function of His physical body ... or being in a body in this age ... or both.

The Function of a Physical Body

It is possible the physical body may be capable of illegal lusts - apart from a sin nature. But, as I have always had a sin nature, I do not know what a body free of one would experience. I do know I can be walking along just fine one minute and then - wham! - a particular female presence, or fragrance - and the war is on. No thinking or decisions - just reaction ... of the flesh flushing. Recently, after such an assault, I came out the other side, chuckled a bit and looked up toward God and said, "Boy, this stuff sure has a lot of power." I do realize such personal reactions may be the result of training my body into defilement over years of "practice." But, this also may be the result of a sin inclination - a negative component of my personal metaphysical imprint. I will have to wait until The Judgment to know all this for sure. I do hope God will allow me to see what I was actually dealing with in my time in this "present evil age" (Ga 1:4) as He untwists all my contorted knots in my final deliverance.

I do not know if Jesus struggled with such flesh assaults - in a body without a sin nature. There is no Biblical evidence that He did. All the speculation about a Mary Magdalene affair, or possible homosexual contacts, is projection from outside the Biblical record and imposed upon The Christ. This is an attempt to humanize Jesus in a debased manner and cast doubt upon the New Testament record of a life free of sin. His Biblically recorded struggles with "weaknesses" (or what I prefer to call, "moral vulnerabilities") all point more toward ...

Being in a Body in this Age

Just being physically present in this age ... is to be in an environment full of provocations to sin. The entire crucifixion saga, just alluded to, is probably the prime example. But, being in a body in the next age "where righteousness dwells" (2Pet 3:13) - while fully obeying God's revealed will - will never have such sordid consequences. One will not be tempted to desert righteousness ... because of persecution for it.

A Few of Jesus' Temptations (Satan's Assaults) and Some Observations

After Jesus fasted forty days, Satan attacked. The first temptation was, "If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread." This, as a temptation, does seem reasonable ... I mean - forty days without food? Jesus refused this action as He must have determined it would be an abuse of the power He had. Satan then followed with two more attacks that appear to me as a grasp at a straw. Satan offered Jesus all the world's domain and glory if He would worship him, and he also challenged Jesus to jump off the Temple to prove He was the Son of God (He would be rescued from harm by the angels). Satan was probing for weaknesses in Jesus' character, but I think these last two ... were total misfires. Maybe I am missing something, but I don't think Jesus was tempted to see Satan as God and I don't think Jesus was an exhibitionist - and "tempted" to jump off the pinnacle of the Temple, be rescued by angels, and then bask in the glory of an awed people. "And when the devil had finished each temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time" (Lk 4:3-13).

Was A Review In Order?

I believe Satan may have later reviewed his attack - and recognized his massive miscalculations. Individuals often project their own insanities upon others - convinced everyone is like they are. As an egomaniac, Satan may have really thought Jesus would want to jump off the Temple - be miraculously rescued, and then be fawned over by star-struck devotees. But, not everyone is an exhibitionist lusting for center stage. (Of course, it is also possible he just hoped Jesus would splatter on the pavement, and that would be the end of the matter.) But, the offer of all the world and its power? Not everyone is enticed by a decaying material system. I suspect these last two temptations were projections of Satan's own weaknesses ... and fell absolutely flat. Satan learns, and I think he regrouped, realizing he missed a great opportunity. Future attacks were much more studied and potentially much more accurate. He is evil and he is insane, but he is not stupid. Read his initial assault on Job. Satan allowed one terrified soul to live from each attack (not because he liked them) and timed it so each one came on the heels of the other with disastrous news. Shock and awe ... with the hope Job would curse God (Job 1). Satan is the master at ambushing. Here is another one.

The Transfiguration Ambush

After speaking with Moses and Elijah about "His departure which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem," (being crucified) not only did Peter blurt out in ignorance, missing the whole point after three years of input, but the next day, when coming down off the mount, Jesus was met by mass confusion. A father of a demon possessed boy (so, Satan was setting up an incident) fell before Jesus recounting His disciple's record of ineptness in being able to help. Exasperated, Jesus said, "O unbelieving and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you and put up with you? Bring your son here!" Is it possible this episode may have pushed Him close ... to an unrighteous outburst of anger? You see, after healing this boy - with everyone marveling - Jesus, in an eternally unmatched intensity, bore a gaze directly into the hearts of the dullard disciples and said, "Let these words sink into your ears: for the Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men." They were so cowed by this message and its delivery they were afraid to ask Him what He meant (Lk 9:28-45). But, the dullness - and ambushes - did not end here. They multiplied. Consider this next one.

"Let's die with Him" Test

At one point (probably sometime after this previous scene), the disciples were tying to keep Jesus away from Judea. "Rabbi, the Jews were just now seeking to stone You; and are You going there again?" When they realized their efforts to turn Him around had failed, Thomas said to the disciples, "Let us also go, in order that we may die with Him!" (Jn 11:8-16). So, off they went ... ready to die! As the moment of truth drew ever closer, Jesus informed them ... they would all scatter. Peter did not like that and, after sulking around, he confronted Jesus and asserted, "Even though all may fall away because of You, I will never fall away ... Even if I must die with You, I will not deny You ... Lord, with You I am ready to go both to prison and to death ... All the disciples said the same thing too" (Mt 26:33,35 and Lk 22:33). Jesus was on the verge of an ordeal unparalleled in human history and unrivaled in eternity. An emergency of the first order was descending - and these companions of three plus years, were pledging unfailing faithfulness. Yet, He knew that even the brazen Peter would soon wilt under the powerful gaze of an accusing ... door maiden. The other disciples didn't even get that far.

How Jesus refrained from lashing out at some point along the way - I will never know. Loss of control for just a split second - just one errant word ... or even one errant heart motivation ... would have doomed us all. "You have heard that the ancients were told, 'You shall not commit murder' ... but I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother (without cause?) ... and says, 'You fool,' shall be guilty enough to go into the hell of fire" (Mt 5:21-22). There is no rewind - "Let me try this again" - when it comes to sin. Even though He was God, He was God in the flesh - and being in a body in this age found Him surrounded by ignorance, overestimation of self, and stupidity of incalculable weight. I regularly fail these kinds of tests - even over inconsequential issues.

I am certain Satan's fingerprints were all over these affairs - as he did have full access to Judas. He may have stoked many such fires through him (Lk 22:3 and Jn 13:27). Satan is ... the Tempter (Mt 4:3 and 1Thes 3:5).

Winning Friends Versus Winning the Father

Obedience to the revealed will of the Father had to be a primary source of Jesus' temptation battles while in a body in this age. When in a right mind, people will not do things that lead directly to physical trauma. Many contend that Jesus was a young zealot who foolishly ran afoul of the authorities and that cost Him His life. But others (like me) believe, "I do nothing on My own initiative ... I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself, who sent Me, has given Me commandment, what to say and what to speak" (Jn 8:28 and 12:49). Obedience marched Him into the lethal teeth of the religious leaders and Roman authorities. And Jesus knew that with each action. He healed people on the Sabbath - and was labeled a Law breaker ... empowered by Beelzebub (Mt 12:9-32). When Jesus informed the Pharisees that Satan was their father - and they were liars and murderers like him - that did not win the extended hand of fellowship (Jn 8:31-47). To single-handedly take over The Temple on two occasions - and humiliate the Sanhedrin in front of the entire nation - were not actions that produced endearment (Jn 2:14-22 and Mt 21:12,13). To publically pronounce woes upon the scribes and Pharisees and their hypocrisy ... to raise Lazarus from the dead and have the "accursed crowd" turn to Him in mass ... to ride into Jerusalem on a donkey while being heralded as the son of David - the Messiah - these actions, while in a body in this age, provoked evil men to murder. Even the disciples wanted Jesus to back off, as they could see where these confrontations were leading (Jn 11:7-16).

How much temptation He suffered in completing His mission is unknown to us now. I think that will be revealed when we stand before Him. But, I do know there were times He spent the night in prayer (Mt 14:23, Lk 6:12), or visited with departed saints whose eternal well being depended upon His obedience (Lk 9:28-31), or had occasions where angels were dispatched to minister to Him (Mt 4:11 and Lk 22:43). Of course, morally, Jesus always cooperated with the Father's will - as it was natural to Him - and was always the right thing to be doing. "I always do the things that are pleasing to Him" (Jn 8:29). He was probably eager to cleanse The Temple of that "den of thieves" (Mt 21:13). He most likely prayed for the opportunity to publically expose the hypocritical teachings and practices of the scribes and Pharisees (Mt 23:1-39). He "loved righteousness and hated lawlessness" (He 1:9) as opposed to the polar opposite of loving "the approval of men rather than the approval of God" (Jn 12:43). Unfortunately, these are most often ... mutually exclusive. And to ride into Jerusalem triumphantly on that donkey - all the things the Father ever called upon Him to do were the right things to do. The fight was to yield to where they led - the cross. He despised the shame of it as much as the torture (He 12:2). To be right, and be damned, is hard to take - even if you know you will rise three days later. This is an understandable weakness of being in a body in this age.

Satan longs for these kinds of shots at us. He does have some understanding of the eternity that has been secured for us - and he hates us intently - knowing we deserve damnation ... yet, will be spared. This has filled him with immeasurable rage (Rev 12:12). If given the chance, he will peel our skin off - inch by inch - and then place us on a red ant hill. And that would just be the start as he would have us linger near death as long as possible. No mercy. Friends, the flesh is weak. If obedience to God leads to some "ant pile" - the temptation to disobey ... is real. Jesus won His war against such temptations produced by being in a body in this age. If you are a bit unsure how much power you may need from God in this life ... well, maybe you see a bit more now. "A pupil is not above his teacher; but everyone, after he has been fully trained, will be like his teacher" (Lk 6:40). I welcome all such cups ... to pass from me. Such moral weakness - vulnerability - is one He can fully sympathize with, and help with, if need be. But, at this moment, or any other moment, I will be happy to be spared this need.

Golden Retriever Tips and Coat Grooming Care

Golden retriever grooming on a weekly basis is important for the health of this breed of dog. We love the look of a golden retriever with its long flowing hair, but if the coat is not cared for properly by the dog owner then the hair knots and it also gets full of all sorts of grass seeds, dirt and other unwelcome nasties. Their long thick coat is also a haven for fleas and ticks if they are in the area.

When a person is contemplating adopting a golden retriever for a pet, they need to consider the care of the dog because they do need to be combed at least once a week. During the shedding season they will need to be combed twice a week or even more. There are many dog grooming businesses in operation where a dog can be taken for grooming so the weekly grooming may not necessarily be a problem.

Grooming is also a great bonding time with the dog. Owners and dogs alike share a loving experience during a grooming session.

    The health benefits of brushing.

A gentle brushing stimulates the circulation and helps maintain the health of the skin. The hair will be in better condition too when it is brushed. Many owners like to spritz the dog's coat with a diluted conditioner which is great for conditioning the hair. To make this solution, mix one tablespoon of conditioner with 16 ounces of water in a spray bottle.

The conditioner helps to prevent static electricity and hair breakage. Once you've spritzed the coat, brush or comb the hair in the direction it naturally grows.

    Brushing the coat thoroughly.

A golden retriever has two lengths of hair to its coat, a shorter layer and a longer layer. When brushing, make sure that both layers are being brushed. In other words, make sure that the brushing goes right down to the skin. If the bottom layer is not brushed out the hair will get matted.

Ensure that all the hair is brushed including under the body, his tail, the back of legs, rear end and behind his ears.

When the coat has been fully brushed snip off any long and uneven hairs under the tail and body to make his coat even more beautiful.

    Bathing the dog.

Bathing a golden retriever is important too because of the long coat. A puppy will need to be trained to enjoy a bath and the responsibility is on the owner for this. Care needs to be taken so that the dog is not burnt with water that is too hot. Goldens are natural water lovers so if they are being bathed with care I am sure you will both enjoy the experience. Rinsing a dog down with a hose works well, but again care needs to be taken. Keep the spray gentle, not full blast, because the pressure of the water will frighten the dog and so will the hissing noise of a full water spray frighten the dog.

A full grooming of the golden retriever does require that nails and eyes are cared for as well. These regal dogs will enjoy all the attention they can get.

    What Is Success?

"Success is falling in love with your he(art)."

What an amazing discovery! What does success mean to you? I, like many others thought that success meant having a lot of money and material things to show that I had arrived. Of course, we now know that this is far from the truth. Listed below are two circumstances that unlocked the definition of personal success: 1) Author Steven Covey realized that he had accumulated a lot of stuff so he sold or gave away most of his material possessions. Covey realized there was a more meaningful path in his heart that he needed to follow and he was open to the challenge. 2) Enduring an open-heart surgery at the peak of my fitness development. This reminds me of the many challenges God's people faced in Egypt.

Egypt in the Old Testament symbolizes a place of hardship for the Jews. It was a place where many of God's favorite people spent their time. Spending time in the desert however can be enlightening. Spending time there can rub you in the most uncomfortable way in order to awaken your inner self, allowing you to create a new person on the outside. One thing is certain, whenever you spend time in the desert be mindful that the situation will not last; that change is on the way. Change can send you swimming upstream to happiness or spiraling downhill with your back against a wall. Change can twist you up in a knot so painful, you wonder if God is angry with you and then He raises you up to motivate the world.

John C. Maxwell said, "It's possible to lose sight of your dream when you're working hard in the trenches. That's why it's important to always keep your eye on the big picture." Each day that God blesses you with breath, challenge and compete withyourself to see how much more you can fall in love with the art in my heart. It's not always easy you see. That passion for your work tends to take control and you may rub people the wrong way. How many emails have you received advising you how you should run your business their way. 'You need this in order to do that. Try this try that.' However, when that information rush occurs, back up and listen to your inner voice. Pray and ask God for guidance knowing that the art in your heart is dancing to a different melody.

Don't get me wrong we all could use assistance from others from time to time. However, building your foundation is a serious process. You have to choose excellent materials to ensure your building will stand strong over time. Be aware of quick fixes or fast company. Change is not always comfortable in either direction. Therefore, welcome a little power surge, positive or negative, to activate the art in your creative heart. I have learned also that rubbing one the wrong way will awaken you from your dead sleep when you're ready to open your heart's eyes. As a witness, sometimes that rub may force you to do so, ready or not.

In Pursuit of Authentic Excellence... It's About Y O U.

Be determined to handle any challenge in a way that will make you grow.

A Few Guidance Tips on Training Golden Retrievers

There are many training tips available for the Golden Retriever breed, however, one of the most common and easier to implement is through chewing. These dogs love to get their teeth on anything they can get their paws on. Retail stores carry a number of toys your dog can chew on as if playing dog games, they are safe and made for that purpose. The chewing activity will relieve them of some of the pain produced during teething, and why not, save some of your furniture as well.

You need not buy a toy for chewing, an old shoe will do. If you want to improve on the experience you can try the sock and ice method. To do this, fill up a sock half way with ice cubes, then tie a knot round the open end of the sock. When you notice that your dog develops a craving for chewing on something, pull out one of the socks you have prepared in the freezer and toss it to him. In order to be ready for these instances you are welcome to keep a few socks in the freezer already prepared with ice cubes in them. Although this system is very convenient and a lot of fun for the dog, you should never leave him alone at this since he could end up eating the sock, which could lead to undesirable health problems.

    Leashes
As most people have come to know it, leash training the dog simply involves attaching the dog to one end of the leash, then pulling towards the direction you want the dog to go. However, this is not considered to be among the best training practices you can perform. The first step in leash training is allowing the puppy to grow accustomed to the leash attached to his neck. Do some practicing inside the house, allowing him to walk around with the leash on, while you watch him closely from a distance.

After running around the house a little with the leash on, pick it up and call him to you. Once he approaches, give him lots of praise, let him know he is in the right track. Remember to apply patience to this process, it will take some time for the dog to get used to the leash. Follow the rules of play, and provide lots of praise when he does what he's supposed to do, you should be on your way in no time..

    Digging Around
Digging stuff out of the dirt is in every retriever's nature. It is one of the most enjoyable activities for your dog, but if not monitored your yard could end up like a war zone.

To attend to this need you could buy him a sand box at the store, which you could fill with either dirt or sand. Follow up on the experience by burying a toy or a snack, he will dig it up and love you for it.

These tips are meant to get you on your way during the first couple of weeks with your new Golden Retriever puppy. Further along the road you will probably want to engage in more complex training yielding much more tangible results.

Pet Grooming - Which is Best?

Pet Grooming is a good way to enhance the health of your loving pet. All dogs need a little grooming at least, and whether or not you want to be the one to groom them or whether or not you want a groomer to do the job. If your dog doesn't like water, it's time for the groomer. If your dog doesn't like to sit still while you comb his hair, it's time for the groomer. If your dog doesn't like for you to clip his nails, it's time for the groomer.

Dogs that have a problem with flees are almost always scratching. A groomer might have some good advice that will help. However, not all scratching dogs have that many flees, especially after a bath.

Many types of dog shampoos will cause your dog to have very dry skin. That is what they are biting and scratching at. The best shampoo that I have found was Dawn Dish Detergent, it definitely helps control the flees, and prevents flee infestation. Regular baby shampoo, especially if it has aloe in it is nice, and it helps prevent itching.

Always start grooming your dog as soon as possible. This not only keeps him looking good but it gets him used to taking a bath on a regular basis, and he is not afraid to get his nails clipped.

Knowing how to groom your dog is important, if you are going to do the grooming yourself. You should buy the grooming tools that you will need as soon as you can. There are brushes especially made for long haired dogs as well as short haired dogs. Nail clippers are an essential for keeping their nails clipped so they do not cut you when they are jumping around or playing. There is a membrane in the nail that will bleed if you try to cut too much of the nail off, so use caution when clipping.

Your dog doesn't really need a bath once a week; in fact, you can over bathe your dog. One bath too much may cause your dog to have dry or extra dry skin, resulting in the dog scratching and biting at its skin continuously. Normally, giving your dog a bath once a month is sufficient enough to clean the hair and kill any flees.

Most groomers will treat a dog bath sort of like you would if you were bathing a baby. Comb any knots out of the coat. Then they put just enough warm water in the tub that will be comfortable to the dog. Then using a cup or glass they will continuously pour water over the dogs body until it is soaking wet all the way to the skin. Use aloe based baby shampoo to lather the entire dog except his face. Then rinse it thoroughly with water and let the dog drip dry, while you wash its face with a damp rag. Be sure not to get water and soap directly in its eyes as this tends to make a dog a little skittish of water, and might make it hard to give it another bath later.

Whether you do your own grooming or you have it done by a professional, your dog's health is going to benefit the dog and you.

    Choosing The Perfect Necklace

A necklace is an accessory worn around the neck. They are frequently in the form of metal chain with a pendant or locket often hanging from its end. Necklaces come in different styles and length that can change the look of your outfit. Of all your jewelry pieces, your necklace makes the greatest impact to your look. It gives flair and color to whatever you are wearing. The necklace you choose to wear could either make or break your outfit.

    Your Necklace and Your Clothes

Necklaces can be chokers, princess necklace, matinee necklace, opera necklace, rope necklaces (Sautoir), dog collar, bib necklace, graduated necklace and uniform necklace. Collars are typically about 13 inches long but can vary. They are most suitable to complement v-neck, boat neck or off the shoulder clothing.

A choker is about 14 inches long. It is the most classic of all necklaces. It is wrapped around and lies on the base of the neck. It can be matched with any clothing from casual to formal evening wear. Chokers set off any neckline. It is stylish when used with a button-down shirt and trendy with a cocktail dress.

If you are wearing something with high necklines, crew or low necklines or if you are not sure what's the best strand to use, a princess necklace is best for you. It is also the ideal necklace to hang a pendant.

If you are going out for a business lunch or dinner or if you are wearing something casual or something with a high neckline, a matinee necklace is best for you. It adds elegance for a more sophisticated ensemble. It also suits sundresses and formal gowns. It gives a certain zest to an outfit while giving the person wearing it a feeling of confidence.

Opera necklaces are perfect for both crew and high necklines. It can be used for both casual and formal wear. It can be doubled to function as a choker. To create an old yet classic look, you could knot it at the neckline or above the breast line.

Rope necklaces are chic and incredibly sexy. You can have clasps placed in different locations so that you could have different necklaces and bracelets or have a multi-strand choker. Like Opera necklaces, you could knot this necklace for a trendier look. If you are wearing a backless dress, you could knot this necklace and sling it over your shoulder to give your dress more flair.

    Looking for the Perfect Necklace

The best thing about choosing your necklaces is that you don't have to traipse through malls in search of your necklaces as you can always shop online for fine necklaces from the comfort of your own home and go out feeling confident and trendy. Online stores have a large collection of necklaces that you can choose from, and it is updated regularly to suit whatever the trend is right now. They also display vintage pieces if you are into a more classical look.

Now that you have an idea what necklace to put on with whatever you are wearing, choosing the perfect necklace to accessorize your dress is not that daunting anymore.

    Types of Pearl Necklaces

Pearl strands are popular for a number of reasons and especially because they will never actually go out of fashion. Women have been accessorizing which pearl strands for many years now and with time pearl strands of different colors, types, sizes and designs have been made available to suit personal preferences. A pearl strand necklace as its name indicates is a string of these beads on varying lengths of thread. Pearls both cultured and natural are sold with the natural variety being much more expensive. Cultured types are high quality as well and the real difference between the two types can only be spotted by the presence of a nucleus in the cultured variety when exposed to an x-ray beam. Due to this difference, these necklaces may cost as little as twenty dollars and as much as hundreds and even thousands of dollars a piece.

Strands of these precious pieces are commonly made of Akoya which are cream, white or silver in color, Mikimoto which are the highest quality and exhibit an array of various colors, South sea and Tahitian which exhibit darker shades and finally the Saltwater pearls which are comparatively expensive than the freshwater variety. Strands are especially popular because they can be worn to contrast every color, beautifully compliment bridal dresses and also make great gifts for loved ones.

Necklaces of these types are more often categorized according to their dimensions and general style. A collar strand has a standard length of ten to thirteen inches and can be worn both formally and casually. Typically, these are worn higher on the neck above its base. It is also found in the dog collar variety whose popularity dates back to the Victorian era and this is a collection of several strands covering more area of your neck.

Chokers as the name indicates are tied to lie at the very base of the neck are about sixteen to eighteen inches in length. These are a wise choice for ladies with thinner and longer necks. Another type of strand is the princess witch pearls strung on a thread of length seventeen to twenty inches. The princess length is the most commonly worn because these are a great option for semi-formal and corporate wear as well. The opera strand is twenty eight to thirty four inches long and because of this it is often doubled to from twin strands that lie ideally just below the bust line.

The matinee is twenty to twenty four inches long and looks best coupled with corporate suits and such. The longest variety is the sautoir or rope with a starting length of approximately thirty seven inches which looks great with pantsuits. Their length offers flexibility which means that you can double it, knot it, make use of the multiple clasps on it to create your own style. The choice of which necklace is the best for you depends on your personal preference and body type.

    Laughter, Best Remedy Ever!

Laughter is the best medicine, now there is a very common comment. I also believe this one, laughter is the best medicine.

When you are laughing and enjoying yourself there is no better feeling. Your spirits are high, your outlook is positive, and you feel better all over.

Haven't you ever experienced a time when you were at your lowest and that right person came along and said or did something that just made you start laughing? Have you ever watched a show on TV and someone did something that made you laugh out loud when you were the only one in the room? Here's a good one too, how about reading cards that you are buying for someone and you find yourself laughing out loud in the store? Laughing is a great remedy for all that ails you.

I have been dealing with some health issues lately and this last week it has really been a little difficult. I am going to be having some surgery done and I went to tell my best friend what was going on. She is a cook and was working in the kitchen where she works so I went in there to talk to her. As I was telling her I started to cry a little and she came over to give me a hug and I went to hug her back. In that little bit of time she closed the microwave door that was right beside us and my sleeve got caught in the door. I had to say, I can't hug you because I am stuck in the microwave door. We both started laughing, it took the pressure off and made it all easier in some ways.

My friends and family make me laugh a lot and I know from experience that it is my best medicine.

I watch Ellen on TV for that reason, the woman can make me laugh like no other. I enjoy her so much and I can count that I will laugh while watching her show. Friends and Mad About You use to do the same thing.

Find whatever it takes to give you a laugh in your day. It doesn't matter if it is a TV show, friends, family, or a stranger for that matter. You will feel so much better from laughing and you will be able to handle whatever is in your path in a healthier manner.

A Weird and Unusual Tip for Selling

A few weeks ago I was in the back of a police car going to a meeting. Yes - you read correctly!

Let me back up a moment. I was driving in my sassy little sports car to meet a client and suddenly...

    WHAM!

..I was broadsided by a big truck as he tried to change lanes (without shoulder checking or using his mirrors) and he pushed my car into the turning lane. It's funny. As soon as my car was hit - I knew exactly what he had done. I tried to get out of the driver's door (no luck - it was crushed) so I crawled out the passenger door (no skirt that day!) and had a look at the damage.

Oh yeah - it was bad - the entire left side of my car was crunched, and the back end was torn off. The other driver walked up to me and asked if I was OK - and he shakily said...

"I'm so sorry -I just didn't see you." To which I replied, "It's OK - accidents happen."

So What Does A Car Accident Have To Do With Sales?

Well - when the police officer offered to give me a ride somewhere - I said "That would be wonderful - can you drive me to Starbucks? (this was where I was supposed to have met my client). I crawled into the backseat, stilettos and all, and enjoyed a ride right to the front door of Starbucks (Ask me how funny that must have looked!).

I told the police officer as we were driving: I think I must be maturing - as I haven't cried or sworn once! She laughed and told me she had never seen someone so calm ...and then she whispered I'd cry if I had a hot car like that.

I realized that even though I was hit by another car, and it was going to be in the body shop for 2 months - I was OK. I wasn't hurt and neither was the other guy. You just move to Plan B and move forward.

Have You Been Blind-Sided By Something Lately?

    Maybe you've:

o Lost a client - they went to a competitor.

o Been stiffed on the bill.

o Had someone steal all your money from your bank account (I know someone this happened to!)

o Had a supplier/employee jump ship in the middle of a project

o Your internet servers went down for a week

o Had a large invoice come through and you don't have the cash

    o Blah, Blah, Blah

We've all been there. Those sweaty armpits, heart pounding, dry mouth moments when you feel like Chicken Little and the sky is falling down. But you're not Chicken Little sister and you have a backbone not a wishbone!

My Weird and Unusual Tip For Selling?

    Be flexible.

Yes - sometimes life wants to give you whip-lash. However, put your neck collar on and forge ahead.

    Have a Plan B,C,D.....Z.

Breathe. And understand that most of what you're freaking out about - is not worthy. You'll figure everything out MUCH FASTER if you stay flexible, and keep your head about you (there's a saying from my mom!)

So What About My Forgotten Client?

Well - as I made my grand entrance - there she was. Karen had stayed a little longer as she thought I was running late (no kidding) and we had a great meeting. She drove me to a rental spot. I rented the ONLY vehicle they had - a big mom-style soccer van...and I drove to meet my friend David for dinner.

At 3 pm I was getting crunched in a car accident and at 6 pm I was eating hummus.

I'm a lucky girl and so are you.

    So there.
