How to Wash Your Dog at Home - The Essential Tips

To wash your dog at home you will firstly need to give your dog a good brush to get all knots and tangles out before you wash him. Then you need to gather the items needed. For this you will need a dog shampoo, two towels, hair dryer (optional) and a small bucket or container to rinse him off.

Once you have got the essentials to wash you dog you need to put some warm water into a bath tub or laundry sink about three inches deep. Then you need to slowly and calmly pick up your dog and put him into the tub. Once your dog is in the tub you will need to rinse him down from head to tail and the underside of him, try not to get any in his eyes or ears as this can cause irritation and infections.

Now that your dog is all wet you can start to rub the shampoo into his coat starting at his head down to his tail and legs and into all of the crevices underneath him. Once you have done this you need to empty all the dirty water and fill the tub up again with clean water once done you need to rinse him off again to get all of the shampoo off him.

Now he is all clean you need to put him onto a towel that is on the ground and dry him off with the other towel. Try to dry him off the best you can and then if you want to you can get your hair dryer (with a no heat setting) if you have one and dry him off further with it. If you are using a hair dryer make sure that it is about six inches away from him skin so it does not burn him.

When washing a thick coated dog or corded breed you will have to be extra thorough as the exterior may be clean and dry but if the undercoat is still wet it can cause mold. If you wash your dog at home you can save a lot of money each year.
